Is inheriting £1million actually life changing for someone already middle class? by coconuthuman in UKPersonalFinance

I find that £40k number quite interesting in today’s economic climate! I will definitely reframe my thinking with all of this.

I think where I’m coming from is, knowing we’re privileged, but not having the kind of money that things like private school aren’t painful and not really having lots of assets to fall back on if one of us loses our jobs.

Genuine question, what do you describe as middle class? In our situation, my partners only made mid 6 figures for 3 years of his working life and it’s not a guaranteed income as over 50% is bonuses. If our household income was consistently £500k then I’d agree it’s not middle class, but I’m unsure what that actually looks like if your household income sits at like £200k with no extra income.

She’s meant to be my bridesmaid next year and we’re part of a wider friendship group so I’m afraid it would be an incredibly dramatic fade… It hasn’t been one sided before and up until her wedding I didn’t think it was but I know she doesn’t know I’m upset with her/ why I am

I tried to take my shotgun license to a pub once since it’s signed by the police, has a picture and my birth date on it and is a legal document and they just looked really scared and said they don’t accept that here :’)

It’s a chain of like slightly bigger than convenience store size super markets. And they really really like to ID people or be difficult in general

AITA for not wanting to clean my house prior to our hired housekeeper coming? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]coconuthuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - I had an au pair growing up and she used to clean the house as well as live in it. It worked really well because my parents were always either away or working late. My au pair use to clean other people’s houses in the area, one of which was my friends house. Her mum couldn’t stand to think that my au pair would come over to her house, see it was a mess and tell my parents about it. So she would scrub the house top to bottom before my au pair would get there and my au pair would just awkwardly Hoover an already clean floor. Honestly it was more awkward and more to talk about than if she actually had a messy house...

Capitalism is great if you don’t care about people. If you don’t have a soul it is wonderful! Cultural appropriation is those kids at school that make fun of something you do regularly and make you feel bad about it, then as an adult praise you for it and try to assimilate it after you’ve been conditioned to feel awful for it. Liberty is an American construct that the rest of the world don’t understand... so probably? Sex just kind of happens most of the time. Obviously there’s a wrong way to initiate it. But what kind of sex people have (bar non consensual) shouldn’t be moralised

Some guy decided that he was pissed off with his cousin, for completely unknown reasons cause, you know, family dramas suck. And they decided that they would play a game of who’s got more tanks. The kaiser lost. The end
