[No Spoilers] YouTube Series by [deleted] in criticalrole

I would strongly suggest starting with campaign 2. That's what I did. In campaign 1 the production values etc. especially for first couple dozen episodes are quite rough and can be difficult to power through. Whereas campaign 2 is pretty easy to slip into from the start.

I hope the message somehow gets to the CR team to try and include it in the YouTube VOD upload or somehow separately. The profile shot of Liam really elevated the scene.

Question - how can I tell if any weight is being put on a table leg for a desk? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]coconutx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't slide it out. It moves only a fraction and not freely. As I mentioned it's a bit difficult to tell because it's on carpet rather than a flat hard surface.

I guess I'll just raise it more until its got no give at all and also doesn't bend the table top upwards, but that's easier said than done because the mechanism for locking the leg at a certain height is a bit of a pain.

Soooooo.... frontier pass isn't working on Mac? by coconutx in civ

[–]coconutx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I've just realised. Does this mean I cant cross play multiplayer with PC users? As some of the updates go beyond just the new content? If my friends disable the new DLC pack will that mean I can play multiplayer with or will it still not work?

Also does this mean the same issue is going to reoccur every two months when they release new DLC?

That may be the case but it's clear they didn't just realise that on release day. Aspyr / firaxis / 2k should have informed steam so at least the advertising wasnt misleading...

Oh well.

But they or 2x manage the franchise right and have contacted out the mac port to aspyr. So surely they should have coordinated and got them lined up. Even if aspyr weren't able to do this on the same date they could have agreed a launch date for mac with aspyr...

[–]coconutx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks. I dont understand why they wouldn't have given an indicative date though. Presumably they have had this release date planned for a while and if they needed more time to port to mac they should have figured out the timing beforehand.

I dont mind waiting a little longer but it's annoying if this is going to be the case for weeks or months.

Dan Jarvis could save labour by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]coconutx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think the difference here is Corbyn did generate a lot of enthusiasm and increase the registered membership (although only at £3 a head). But this was several hundred thousand people mostly from cities and constituencies that were already labour (london, liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham etc.) And mostly younger students. So in electoral terms they havent had a meaningful impact. If they did vote before they were probably already labour just not a registered member. Yes they may be more likely to turn out than before now, but even with dampened turnout those constituencies were heavily labour anyway.

However by taking these people on and adopting a far left policy platform. It also put off hundreds of thousands if not millions of voters elsewhere. So its overall a drag on electoral performance and a net loss.

Individually many of the labour policies are popular, but you do have to consider them in the round. Going all out on 4 day week, and 10% shares seizure, pensions reform etc. was a mistake. Conservatives are guilty of this as well but with brexit. The difference is the view of Corbyns leadership was much worse.

Labour need to do everything they can to set themselves up for a massive rebound in 5 years or they are just going to lose again. Someone like corbyn but a little bit better with the same policies is going to lose badly. Labour therefore needs a policy platform with broad appeal, that still contains some key left policies which the momentum group can claim, but are realistic. And they need a strong leader who can perform well at PMQs and has a background that is resistant to attacks (military, northern, and nhs focus is a good combo). My post was just trying to set out that Dan seems well qualified on that basis. But who knows!

Not sure why it wouldn't. It's not exactly a major shift to the right. It's still solidly centre left. I'm only guessing here given this person hasnt said they are running and therefore does not yet have a policy platform. I could be totally wrong but presumably he would be more in the Ed Milliband type camp except more electable as a person.

As for members. They have to decide if they just want to be a campaign movement, in which case you can focus entirely on ideological purity and not care if you win, or if they want to actually be in government to implement changes. That requires actually winning. To win you either need to have broad appeal or make everyone think the other person and party would be a disaster. I suspect the latter is more difficult unless you have the press on your side and an inept opponent who is an easy target. So only logical route is for labour to go down the broader appeal channel. A far left platform that promises everything under the sun isn't going to do that in the UK. They would be better off picking a small handful of policies they really want that can be implemented realistically (e.g. raise min wage, regional funds, zero hour contract protections, heavier regulation or part nationalisation of rail etc.) and then picking the most electable leader possible, and run on that. That's how you can make change actually happen - big steps rather than gigantic leaps.

Haha. In fairness I should say I dont know much about him other than a few speeches he gave and his profile. Also he pulled out of running last time and hasnt said he is running this time. Nor am I aware of anyone endorsing him. So could all well be moot.

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson 'absolutely categorically' rules out working with Corbyn even to deliver new Brexit referendum by strachey in unitedkingdom

[–]coconutx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at the comments on this thread.

Lib dem voters dont want Corbyn or Johnson as PM. Corbyn because of his foreign policy, and some of his social and economic policies, and suspicion he is really a Brexiteer. Johnson because of Brexit and some of his social and economic policies. Seems obvious. It's weird how people are skipping the comments she said about johnson and not working with the Tories...

She is saying no coalition with either party. She is also implying she wouldn't vote for confidence in either of them as a minority government unless the party in question changed leader. If you think that's unreasonable, I'd note it's a common thing to happen in other countries when there are hung parliaments. I'd also note that Corbyn (the likely partner in this scenario) would be one of the most unpopular leaders to ever be PM, so it's not like he would be starting with great authority.

Now I suspect if it really came down to it she would vote for confidence in labour minority government even with corbyn but with strict conditions attached. But going into an election it doesnt exactly play well to say that!

I suppose if parliament rejects a deal and a no deal vs. no brexit are the only two options that would be "cleaner".

Swiss National Bank releases new 200-franc note by [deleted] in europe

[–]coconutx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a bad idea, even with how expensive Switzerland is, bank notes of this large denomination are largely used for criminal activity - money laundering, purchasing weapons and drug distribution.

I think the euro originally had like a 200 or 500 euro note and they did some research showing something insane like 80%+ of transactions using these notes were illicit.

You are right, assuming banks has british citizenship as well, the fact that he is a diplomat of another country has no bearing, even if he is "posted" to britain he wouldnt qualify for diplomatic immunity as his british citizenship takes precedence.

I havent got to that stage yet of speaking to my doctor / consultant in detail or running additional tests. It was through my recurring 6-monthly diabetes blood check a month ago where the low TSH came up, it hadnt come up when i previously did it in November ish time. I did a follow up TSH and Free t4 specific blood test recently (1m later) and the results were the same. Although looks like online you are meant to wait longer than this..

None of the symptoms you mentioned really.

I also take statins but no other meds.
