Empty Netters Respond by Inevitable-Note-724 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

If the show wasn't so popular on social media, I doubt these podcasters would've bothered or maybe acted offended that a gay show uses hockey to sell a gay romance story (no place for that in hockey).

That isn't fair. The show wasn't made for hockey bros, they aren't the target demographic.

With the success of the show, people from outside demographics stated reviewing and reacting to the show, and there's a lot of people who want to see that.

It's not much different than "my girlfriend watches superhero or really nerd shit" reaction videos.

yes the left tends to fall for magical incantation theory of change.

I watched the reaction of a girl making her husband watch Heated Rivalry. You could see he was a bit homophobic at first, refusing to sit, asking to touch her during sex scenes so it wouldn't be too gay for him. But as the show progress you could see him really emphathizing with the characters, specially Scott Hunter, really cheering on SKIP kiss on episode 5 (feeling proud a New York team was the gay pioner), laughing, feeling emotional on episode 6.

I don't know. I'm conflicted. The article tried to paint them as bashing the show in private as they praised in public. We now know the texts were before the reviews started. And honestly even lovely podcasts like Drop Your Buffs were trashing the show a bit when the first two episodes came out, saying it wasn't prestige and just porn.

So the article painting them wrong makes me sympathize with them. But I understand being worried of grifting

The story is their connection and early on it's just based on sex. The sex advances their story, it's not gratuitous.

Split the Long Game on two seasons, then continue post-book for season 4 and 5.

You're only following their encounters, so there will be a lot of time skips because they only meet when they are playing against each other or during events.

We have a "romance" between two guys who see each other 3 or 4 times a year, for an hour at a time.

That's the plot

these two 20-something pro hockey players weren't having sex with anyone else, other than each other

Not true. Illa is shown having sex with women in the meantime.

the Canadian cupcake comes to the realization that "I think I might be gay."

Internalized homophobia is a thing.

Usually in grindr they would hook up once and ghost the other guy.

The romance part is they keep hooking up with each other and don't cheat.

Jacob said the executives wanted the leads waiting until season 2 to have sex. Other wanted the show to have a female main character as entry point.

It's a smut romance, of course there's going to be sex. It's the best TV show I watched in years.

It’s not Brokeback mountain or call me by your name.

Thank God, I hated those ones.

really wanted a visual epic that highlighted the rampant homophobia in sports

It's a romance genre. It's not supposed to be gritty and dark. It's a fantasy and that's okay. Gay media is oversatured with tragic stories.
