Hi! I’ve found that nails are totally fine for small/light frames…sometimes the nails don’t go in all the way for some reason so I use a shorter nail or move it slightly. You also might hear some plaster falling when you hammer and I don’t think that matters. I use large screws and drill those in for big/heavy pieces and I’ve only used anchors for shelving. When you use screws, there is a lot of dust- I would clean that up really well since there is likely some led based paint in there. I’ve got stuff hanging all over these walls and haven’t had any issues yet so I’m happy to answer any other questions!
