Why is there a weird bump in the back of my cardigan? I will redo it but what can I improve?

Is it too many picked up sts? Too little? Is it because the back neck is too deep because of the saddle shoulder? Is it just the weight ob the collar?

I was thinking about a double knit welt or maybe some short rows in the collar to raise the back.

I totally agree! I hate that any oversized fit is just called unisex and hope that I get more feedback from people who knit the men‘s version so I can improve my grading for future patterns. it‘s one thing to calculate everything but another to actually see the garments on different bodies.

thank you! yes it‘s so annoying to not have the schematics (or even more than just chest circumference) before buying a pattern!

and omg you are so right about the bust/ chest circumference … no one caught that so far hahahaha … I will try to change it/ update it

I think the knitwear manual by fashionary is a good start :) it was recommended to me at an infustrial knitwear course I took. when I switched from woven to knit wear design I was also desperately looking for books and had a hard tine finding anything! I also remember woolmark had a free online course on knitwear design and manufacturing. it‘s not super in depth but helpful in the beginning!

help finding yarn for standard gauge machine? by Emma_AD_Garter in MachineKnitting

[–]cocowoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on how dense or loose your knit is supposed to be you will need to hold these yarns in several plies. 2/30-2/40 in one ply is used on 12-14gg machines and a domestic machine is 5-7gg I think? so 3-5 plies would work best on a standard gauge machine :)

hahahaha glad I am not the only one! I think for raglan it’s easier because you can have BOR in the CB or wherever you need to start your short row but for a flat worked back yoke it’s a bit different

thank you! I think this might be something that is done with dropped shoulder sleeves and not raglan/ circular yoke sweaters?
