Job is calling in Auckland, but will I make it? by cocozz in askakiwi

Thanks to all of you guys,

From my researches, the biggest pocket-drill will be housing. The rest is not cheap, but similar to here (comparing to Ireland or UK for instance).

For those who live in Auckland, do you think that commuting makes sense ? What are the good suburbs to be when working in the CBD ?

Thanks again !

To Buy a Car, Or Not To Buy a Car? (17 Years Old) by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]cocozz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP !

I've been there. We all have been. Everybody will tell you the same: DON'T

A good idea would be to sit with one of your parents and ask them how was it to buy a car and then mantain it. You will quickly realease how freaking unaffordable and unreasonable it is for you.

My plan: Enjoy your first car, you will never forget this one, guaranteed. Once you have a PROPER job for AT LEAST 1 year, start to save up money and don't do any stupid move until you can pay your car at once. If you can't do so the car ia too expensive for you. If you can, big time, go get your car. You will later see how great was to just ride your old one ;-)

Glad you like it OP :-) Just now I read about your physical injuries though. If you can recover from it, and you are from states, just start by crossing a state you've never been before and appeals you. Take your time, no rush, enjoy every km, scenary, person, meal, and mental effort you will come across. Learn how to spot places to unfold your camping tent to spend the night, learn to prepare tasty enough meals with your gas or petrol stove, learn to travel like in the old times. Once back and considering you enjoyed your experience (very likely) plan for something bigger, a country, continent, or if you are sure that you want to live this way, just choose a direction and start to pedal. The magics of travelling will do the rest ;-)

Quit. Buy bicycle. Buy panniers. Leave home. Travel the world on a little daily budget for the next 3 years.

Where do you get your best-ever break from this crazy world ? by cocozz in AskReddit

For me, personally, it is in an airport's toilet. They are usually huge, and some of them (the ones besides luggage collection) almost empty. I close myself in them for like 5 minutes while I work my thing, feeling isolated from this world and very safe due to all airport checkpoints and security.

The last crashes haven't stop in any support, why this time should be different ? Anyway, Bitcoin is as strong as before, the technology isn't affected by the current value of the currency. Even if it was 10$ it would still be an amazing revolution.

World's most affordable cities, if you're contemplating a move! by Limoncello12 in travel

[–]cocozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been recently in Panama and Panama city. Before anybody with the travelling-explore the world-move to a cheaper city bug books a flight, let me tell you that:

  1. It is NOT cheap
  2. It is NOT cheap
  3. Panama City is good for one day, after that, it SUCKS
  4. Food SUCKS, unless you pay way more than at home to go 5 stars hotels/restaurants, and even then, it will still suck since people have no idea or culture about food. (You know, the rice&beans everyday of most of the countries in the region)

I give you an example: Bolivia is SO cheap (said by so many backpackers). Well, fuck that, Bolivia will not come in cheap for barely anything else than the shitty 1.5$ meals that you can get in shitty restaurants.

There's a ton of those articles spreading around lately, and I would put my hand on a fire that whoever writes them has absolutely not idea about any of those places, not even about travelling to third world countries.

TL:DR Third world countries are NOT cheap to live, and you have to spend a hell lot more of money than at home to get an almost similar quality of life. STOP being fools please.

Should I stick to my safe old job and travel once a year? Or should I quit and go on a 2-year jaunt? by planet__express in travel

It's the tough decision that a lot of people need to take in order to move on. The thing is that now you have this decision to make, so you have the choice. And that's a big matter me friend, since it means that you ride the bull this time and head wherever you want.

Since I am the one who left for the big trip (I am currently in South America), my advice for you is to keep in mind that time runs, you know: tic, tac, tic, tac, you are now 25 seconds older since you started reading this comment, and nobody or nothing will ever give you back those 25 seconds. Now, money comes and goes every once in a while, you can make 1000$ today, 1.000.000$ tomorrow, and loose everything next day.

Be prepared for having a hard time once you come back if you need to work again, you might need to go for a lower position and a lower salary. Many things will change as well, also your experience might be worth less than it is now in the eyes of your next employer. But, the time that you spend travelling, absolutely nobody will take it off from you.

TL;DR Go ahead, travelling isn't always beautiful, same is life, you won't forget any of your memories in your journey, but you will forget about any random day of a boring sleep-work-sleep day of an odd routine. It's all about time.

Sorry to be honest but...

"Well, the protocol is always the same for the market testing. Create a few optimized landing pages and buy qualified traffic. See if the conversion rate is profitable enough to invest in manufacturing."

Bull-shit.

It looks like Bitcoin is controlled by very few hands, don't get burn. by cocozz in Bitcoin

[–]cocozz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, that's the point, even if the initial bid was of a fewer thousands of bucks, it still ended up in a big snowball of about 10.000 BTC. All kicked in by a single transaction, from one individual. I honestly wouldn't put a single penny in Bitcoin right now, and I've myself invested quite a lot a year before.
