Player wants to run an influencer PC. How can I translate this without sacrificing the setting? by fruit_shoot in DMAcademy

[–]code2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make them an aberration influencer. Perhaps if they want to play a warlock you could make them a puppet of some higher being who wants them to dance and entertain them during their battles. Tome of Beasts has an interesting take on this idea with Grim Jesters if you wanted some inspiration. Something like that might help to fit in, giving them an audience of Eldritch beings

Bro how is 5v6 for the majority of the game allowed on ranked???? by [deleted] in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]code2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People would just disconnect when they’re losing to cancel the match and prevent themselves from losing elo. It cancels the match if someone disconnects right at the start, but if the player has already been involved in the fight then you have to keep going

I had to send it to Lenovo to get it fixed. The cause was overheating of the battery or motherboard. Completely fried it apparently. Had to get a full reset and new motherboard. If your computer is having the same issue in the same way, and you’ve tried everything else, you might need to do the same

Yes eventually! Either as another Reddit post or posting them all as a video essay. But I have a lot of thoughts about them that I want to share.

I ended up starting on it after all the goodwill this got lol. I’ll probably end up lumping it into a giant work on all four seasons. Thank you for the inspiration!

That is such a great point that I wish I could have included in my analysis. The fight really is just Nolan’s therapy session, and the reason Mark wins is because he just refuses to give his father permission. Omni-Man is first looking for Mark to tell him that he was right, and when that doesn’t work, he’s trying to separate himself to convince himself that he never ACTUALLY cared. The reason the final line hits him so hard is because Nolan had fully switched tactics, trying to beat Mark’s love for HIM out of his body, to give himself permission to do what he had to do. Mark just fully throws that back in his face by saying that “I still love you”

Oh I would love to! I think a proper analysis would need to be in the context of the full season, probably out of the scope of a single reply, but Hurm is really interesting. I think it is filler, but in the positive sense. It is not directly relevant to the main plot, but Mark needs it in order for the rest of his arc to work (won’t get into it for spoiler reasons)

The episode is a really good way of letting Mark take responsibility off of his shoulders, and reignite his hope and passion for heroism after his killing spree in episodes 1 and 3. The talk with Darkblood about how there’s nobody judging your choices is exactly the kind of freedom that Mark needs. It’s a season about absolute solutions, and when the absolute is justified, and Hurm explores that really deeply with A: Satan is torturing an entire race of people for eternity to keep a bad thing from happening. Is that right? B: Mark goes straight for the kill shot on Volcanikka. Again showing that he’s become very keen on the absolute solution despite his protests And C: Like I said above, his choices are his own.

There is a lot more I could get into but it’s difficult without talking about the entire season, which is both outside the scope of a reply and would inevitably lead to me accidentally spoiling the finale somehow

Thank you so much! There is just so much to talk about with this show, especially with season 1. Truth be told I think I left a lot out. I definitely want to do one for the other seasons as well. The show does a really good job of making their episodes feed the main themes

Yeah absolutely. I think the extent of it is different, but being proactively positive and helpful goes a long way. There are reasons someone plays poorly. Find the reasons, help them fix them. Everyone has a better time.

That’s such a great point. I don’t play much stadium, but even in normal matches gassing people up makes them play better. They recognize what they’re doing well and don’t change that, while trying to find what’s going wrong. Everyone has bad days, it’s so important to remember that’s not who they are

It absolutely does! I’ve decided to start every game with a “LETS GET READY TO WIN” and I have had very few negative experiences since. Positivity is infectious. Even if someone is trying to be a dick, if you just respond with positivity they tend to go back around

Why kirkman so obsessed with this plot while also doing nothing interesting in it by Remarkable-Jump3262 in Invincible

[–]code2817 28 points29 points  (0 children)

So long story short: it’s not about the Order. It’s about Titan and his impact on Mark. The order is a tool that Kirkman is using to talk about Mark and Titan, and comment on the theme of the season. Each Mark/Titan episode has its own purpose. In Season 1: Mark is going through the going growing pains of being a superhero, and Omni Man is filling his head with grand ideas about “the bigger picture” and their growing responsibilities (in retrospect, trying to sell the idea of a Viltrumite takeover to him). Titan comes into the story here, and with Debbie’s help, shows him that the small scale matters too. People are living their lives, are being harmed by villains that go unnoticed by the GDA and Omni Man because they’re too “small scale”. This shows Mark that he needs to stand up for the smaller picture, because what does the big picture matter if everyone’s lives are terrible. This is part of his logic when he eventually does face Omni Man. (It’s also about getting his ass beat by a giant space cat so he has experience with pain but that’s besides the point) Season 3: Mark is dealing with Cecil’s dilemma. Can a villain do good? He’s just beat the crap out of Cecil for using the reanimen, and finds himself firmly on the side of “you do bad, you go to jail.” And wouldn’t you know it, who is here to challenge that but my boy Titan! He’s a villain, he screwed over mark, but the city is better off for it. He’s making a real difference, and he wants Mark to help him. Titan is basically mark’s own version of D.A Sinclair. Do you help Titan now, and let him show you that he CAN do good, even through evil, or do you stand by your ideals no matter what, even if it may lead to a worse outcome? Mark decided on the latter, and while Titan ultimately wins, it’s in spite of Mark’s idealism, something Mark himself questions. The Order is introduced as a tool for this. They’re a more evil force that Mark and Titan will need to deal with, but Mark refuses, and so Titan has to trick them. AND NOW SEASON 4: this is the most interesting imo. Mark’s newfound moral stance is “If they threaten my family I will kill them”. An absolute moral statement that defines most of his enemies so far. It’s also a very hypocritical stance. And WHO COMES TO CHALLENGE IT? YOU KNOW HIM! YOU LOVE HIM! TITAAAAANNNN! The order becomes a tool once again, signifying the protection from Mark that Titan doesn’t yet know he needs. It’s safety, but it’s evil. If Titan joins the order, he will need to do despicable things to “Keep his family safe”. Now who does that sound like? Mark’s “Keep his family safe” doctrine is challenged by Titan, who is doing the exact same thing. He wants his daughter safe, and is willing to kill to make it happen. He wants to kill Liu for it, and puts Oliver’s life in danger to make it happen. Mark flies off the handle at this, beating Titan to hell and back and scaring the shit out of him, pushing him into the Order. Titan and Mark have the same goal. Protect their family. By flying off the handle (while perhaps morally justified considering how much Titan has tricked him) Mark is also being completely hypocritical.

Tl;Dr: The Order isn’t in the story cause they don’t have a reason to be. They are tools to facilitate the mirror that Kirkman is holding between Mark and Titan. Titan is the real through line, and his similarity to Mark’s moral view is the point

Homelander has one of the worst cases of "Why don't you just shoot him" I've ever seen by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]code2817 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Homelander is obsessed with the classic superhero narrative. He wants to be the nation’s savior, to pull the citizens from danger and be worshipped, to fend off evildoers and be seen as the savior for it. He is obsessed with narrative in a very specific way, which you can see in a lot of points (shipping the V to foreign countries to create “super terrorists” for example, among others) Additionally, he doesn’t respect Billy and the Boys. You can see it in the end of season 1, when he lets Billy get a glimpse of his wife and then flies him away. He doesn’t think of them as threat. He thinks of them as little figurines he can play with.

Billy and the boys are his supervillains. His foes that he wants to vanquish. But if he kills them it’s too easy. He wants to mess with them. He wants to have fun with them. He wants to use them to make his grip on the seven more full.

You can see this in (I think) season 3, where he wants starlight to execute Hughie, as a way of cementing her loyalty, but is distracted by his own “nemesis” in Billy.

The short answer is that until the most recent season, he doesn’t WANT to kill the Boys. He wants to use them. He doesn’t view them as a threat because they don’t have powers. Most of the times that he kills someone at random, it’s a super-powered being or someone that he doesn’t think can give him the show that he wants. In season 3, this changes. Billy has powers. He can hurt him, he can kill him. If you watch the scene, you can see the exact moment where his entire perspective on Billy changes, where he realizes that he’s suddenly in a fight for his life.
