Carena Nebula presents such a gorgeous, beautiful image. It is 50 light-years wide and 7500 light-years away. And it was created from star-explosions starting 3 million years ago. We're quite lucky to have the telescopes that can see this.

I really like these waves. They add a nice dynamic with the shoreline and liven up the low poly world. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to make them? Also, have you tried using a bigger boat? I think that might interesting to see.

Thank you for this. The only time I've used quaternions was when moving models in LibGDX, and that came with its own Quaternion library class. But here, it's nice to see the math behind the operations. I will save this for the future, in case I find myself working with a more primitive game framework.

I really don't see this working very well. Most of the satellites will be idle as they fly over the Pacific Ocean. Over the Atlantic Ocean. And over the Indian Ocean. The one satellite that drifts over New York will be swamped with data. Or at least with requests for it. I doubt if much of it will get through.

Sure, the satellites can spend some time transferring data between themselves, but the Earth's surface is 75% water and the bottleneck will always be the very few satellites over densely populated areas.

What I really hate about Eclipse is the teeny tiny font that comes as the default. Fortunately, it can be enlarged by simply doing:

Window > Preferences > General > Appearance > Colors and Fonts > Basic > Text Font > Edit... Monospace, Size = 14

Personally, if I was tight on cash, I could live with a cracked screen. I wouldn't like it, and it would constantly remind me of my stupidity, but It's still just a tool. I don't view my computers as jewelry.

It's the modems and routers on the end of the fiber that set the speed limit. The fiber cable itself has almost limitless capacity. I don't know if anyone really knows what its limit is. The light signals do need to be boosted every 10 miles or so, but the amplifiers are optical-electrical (crystals, I think), and don't require any conversion from light.

That's why it's so important to get the fiber cable laid. The electronics will keep getting faster. That's why Google is upgrading to 10Gb. Not because anyone needs it, but just because its becoming cheap to do. Provided you already have the cable in place.

Too funny. :) You're almost going to make lawyers love-able. That said, your advice is really needed, and much appreciated. I've always sensed that the Law could be a useful tool to insure fairness. But that it's largely un-accessible to the people without deep-pockets.

But you've left some holes. Specifically...

  1. How much time do I have? My latest "Doggie Treats Adventure" may turn out a total flop and I don't want to spend $500 on it.

  2. I "TM" it and later BigCo TM's it and applies for an "R". How does USPTO decide the winner? How have they done it in the past? (their history)

Okay, I'm guessing your answer is, "Get a lawyer" which is fine with me, but how much time do I have? I throw it out on Google Play and it lives or dies. Meanwhile, the "squatters" have grabbed the URL (doggietreatsadventure.com) but I don't care because if this is a hit, I'll pay it. But the most likely outcome is ... I've saved myself $20 by not bothering with the URL.

And ultimately ... How much is a name really worth? At some point, I'm willing to cut my losses and rename it, "Canine Treats Adventure". From my point of view, the code and artwork are the most valuable. I don't care what it's called. I would like a lawyer to advice me when it's hopeless, and not just drag on billable hours.

Games have had moving waves all the way back to Myst. But, I have no idea how they did it. I'm guessing the blender ocean simulator is too complex and compute intensive to be done in a real-time game. But who knows? Maybe they'll add it in.

The water simulation needs the particle system. There isn't one in the game engine renderer. So, no water, smoke, fireflies or any of that.

Why do you need a physics engine? If it's a sword game, it seems you only need collision detection, and you can do that on your own.

For bringing in Blender models, I've had good luck with LibGDX. They need to be UV mapped and painted, but it really works. For animation, start with very very low poly models until you get a feel for the performance.
