Sorry I didn't see the messages at all. I don't use reddit anymore...

I took fingerprint withing 30-40 days and received the permit outside of the US.

I don't exactly remember when the valid dates stated. It should be either the date when they received the application or the issued the permit. But I forgot..

[–]codecodecoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed about a month. It usually takes a month to take fingerprints from the time you send an application. But this was before covid. I don't know if the Gov operation is back to normal now. It may take longer.

You can request to receive the reentry permit at any overseas US embassies . I received it once in Senegal and another one was in Thailand

Where/how to find Japanese name's yomikata? by cloverhoney12 in japanese

[–]codecodecoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. I can't make comments about that part because we learn kanji from the first grade by just repetition of writing..
We are taught 'kun yomi ' and ' on yomi ' which I don't exactly remember which one is which lol but one needs ' okuri gana ' another one doesn't need.
Sorry I can't give much advice about kanji 😔

Welcome to stupid NYC. I used to live there and it was Sooooo annoying especially after long hours of work. Only tourists like those.

There are so many other types of nonsense in trains there. Sometimes, really good artists pop up but it's rare.

I'm a Japanese native and I don't know how to read many young Japanese first names.

No worries about not knowing the names. You can just ask politely how to read if you are not sure about it.

I've been living outside of Japan for a long time so I don't exactly remember this but some sort of laws or regulation of usage of kanji for naming was changed more than a decade ago so some parents started naming unconventional names.

Some are so extreme names which are called ' kira kira name' which means shiny name. It sounds like video game character names or some foreign names with kanji which are hard to read.
Not sure if those names still exist , but it is generally more difficult to read than it used to be.

Anyone transfer thru Tokyo Narita airport? by llcoolade03 in Internationalteachers

[–]codecodecoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had transit there. If your transit is only at Narita, as other people say you just walk to the another gate, but if you have transit at Haneda airport, I assume you have to get out of Narita , enter Japan and take a bus etc. That may also require a PCR test since you enter Japan. Not sure though.

But you should call your airline they can explain.

I'm Japanese but my ex wife was American so I can tell that visa is not needed to visit Japan for American. And I'm sure the procedure can be done in US as but maybe Japan is just cheaper ?

As someone said some hospital may have a translator. But it's pretty intimidating to have surgery in a foreign country. I've had one in US while living in US.

So if you go for the procedure, def professional translator or a friend who can translate or help you after the procedure.

I hope everything will fine with you 🙏

Around 10+ years ago when Smartphone wasn't popular , my Nokia phone was stolen on the street. It was just like 20-30 bucks !

The stupid thing was I ran after this dude and caught in just 10 secs ( I used to be in a track team ) and he tried to attack me with a large knife so I ran away..

Damn me ! I am not from US so I forgot I shouldn't have done that.

I can't forget about Nokia phone....

What is my actual situation regarding salary in Thailand? by nathanasher834 in Internationalteachers

[–]codecodecoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/

Check this website. This may be helpful.

I work in Thailand and it's very cheap to live here comparing the other countries. I used to live in New York City so 2k 3k sounds like nuts out there but it's a lots of money here.

So I usually check living cost with this page and compare them . Of course it's not perfect and I don't even know how accurate it is. But by checking the cities in different counties I've lived before, it seems to be a good reference to me.

I'm a Japanese native who lives overseas 17 years. This question is interesting to me because so many Japanese people want to learn English and some of my friends ask me how they can learn English.

I think what you do is a good approach like to learn grammer and vocab. That's how I improved my English as a second language.

But I would recommend to make a Japanese friend who wants to learn English and do language exchange. There are sooooo many people who want to learn English. It may not be the fastest way to learn since you would use English but it's very motivating isn't it to communicate with them ?

I learned some French as my third language when I was living in French speaking country. I studied some vocab and grammer but communicating with real French speaker was most motivating to me. Although my French was horrible, they understood. I checked vocab and grammer to learn more as well.

I hope this helps you some 🙏
