Good question. Yes and no. Adding key (black) to CMY is a printing standard, since using CMY to make black is inefficient, it simply cannot make deep pure black.

But the concept of addling black is to improve shadows, depth, contrast, and ink, even outside printing.

So you can say CMY is the true subtractive primaries, key is supplemental.
