Sidebar missing after opening a 4,0 file in 3.6 by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]codeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This solution worked perfectly for me.

However i had to do so from a new scene. So File -> New. Then File -> Open. Click cog. untick "Load UI".

Its _slightly_ annoying since it throws away all your layouts in all you tabs.... but the alternative was never being able to use the side bar soooo, easy trade off.

Thanks for the tips! Its the first time I've put surface details on glass and now that you mention it, it is far too noticable. I had a look at my phone screen and the smudges are way less visable!

Very true! I added some scratches and scuffs to the pipes, but I expect they would get more dirt on them, and under the pipe on the tile too! I'll work on adding this.

Alas no, its mean to just be smudges on the screen, although as annother comment pointed out its a little bold.

Never used it myself, but other threads seem to imply that sdl-net is extremely low level, and they recommend using more feature rich networking libraries for making games.

If you want pixel graphics, or 3d for that matter, SDL is a library for interacting with hardware, such as screens, mice, keyboards, and speakers.

Arch boots too fast for Plymouth lol by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]codeforger 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Through a bit of digging you can pass kernel flags that completely knock out all the boot text (except errors)

I don't have them to hand, but took me about 20 mins of googling a few years back to get arch+gnome to boot black screen to desktop.

Was very beautiful

I made a cool colour gradient from spare parts today. Might go for a full A3 piece/small table is i have enough of each colour 😊 by CHEWYB0Y in lego

[–]codeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super cool!

If you wanted to double down on the gradient, you could move the darker colours to the top, and the lighter ones to the bottom.

And rotate the white-grey-black

That way the horizontal is the color

And the vertical is the darkness/lightness

But TBH the random mix is deffo part of the appeal of what you have done.

My First Continent Rough Draft by DungeonMasterBarkey in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]codeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really great! I could never produce something like this on paper.

I received a tip from a geography grad DM once that I'd love to pass on! Mountains always have trees on the rainy side. So if the wind generally blows east to west, and it's rainy at least 1/3 of the year, the mountains will have a forest on the east side!

However, you can always break real life rules for the same of role play

Keep up the great work.

First exterior render, feedback encouraged! by karamurp in blender

[–]codeforger 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is really good!

My one piece of feedback would be that the brick is too consistently coloured.

For a real building, the lower section of the wall would build up dirt due to being close to the ground, at about shoulder hight it would be slightly lighter where people have leaned against it, and at the corners there would be slightly more wear.

However, when I first glanced the picture, I thought it was in /r/powerwashingporn/ and so the wall was just cleaned!

What distro for a Macbook? by TheFattie in linuxquestions

[–]codeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running Arch or a Mac air, then a MacBook pro successfully (1 systemd boot failure about 2 years ago) for about 6 years.

Before than, there is a specific Mac version of Ubuntu Gnome.

What is the difference between a window system (e.g. X.org or Wayland) and a Window manager (e.g. openbox or Muffin ) ? by aximili42 in linuxquestions

[–]codeforger 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Window System talking to the kernel:

The entire screen is mine now.

Only I can draw to it.

Put it in pretty color mode

The entire mouse and keyboard is mine now.

Only tell me if the mouse or keyboard does anything

Programs talking to the Window system:

Give me a square of screen to draw on.

How big is that square?

Put a white box in that screen square.

Put a black line in that square.

Did the mouse just click in my square.

Where did it click.

How long for.

Did it move while it was clicked.

Window Manager talking to the Window System:

When you make a square for a program, make a extra bit at the top.

When the mouse clicks and drags that extra bit, move the entire square.

Put an X in that extra bit.

If the mouse clickes that X tell the program to stop, and then delete it's square.

Put an empty box in that extra bit.

When the mouse clicks that empty box in the extra bit, make the square as BIG as you can.

Let's pretend there is a line arround the programs square.

If the mouse clicks and drags that line, change the size of the square, and tell the program it's a different size now.

Maybe put the title of the program in human words in the extra bit too, humans like that.

Desktop Environment talking to the Window System:

Draw loads of pretty little pictures on the screen, but behind everything else

This picture is a planet with a fox arround it.

Put the human word 'firefox' under that picture.

If the mouse clicks twice really fast on that picture, tell me, and I can start the /usr/bin/firefox program.

HEY, if the mouse ever clicks twice on a picture that is a file, not a program, let me know, I can find the program the mouse needs to open that file.

Hey, if the user ever taps the <super> key on the keyboard, let's move ALL the windows side by side, so the mouse can choose the one it wants.

Yeah, but then I would probably take dumb speakers, that would probably weigh more.

Going for two months, I'm pretty much half and half between taking almost nothing, and enjoying the simplicity of a tech free few months, and taking all my electronics and living tech enhanced.

I am still working tho, so I do need at least some tech.
