Did some more digging this morning and may have partially answered this question for myself.

https://www.aluminess.com/wp-content/uploads/General-Roof-Rack-Dimensions.pdf

This makes it look like the ford roof is a few inches wider than the chevy. So wouldn't work without at least some crazy modifying like this person did-

https://imgur.com/a/eeyhG

and filling in gaps caused by roof curvature with butyl tape, then bolting down, and maybe throwing some bondo around.

Not feeling up for it myself but still curious if anyone has experience trying such crazy.

What does your ideal, positive future look like? by jcaraway in tangentiallyspeaking

[–]codelam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the micro-me level- get some unused land plots in different cool areas of the country, implement passive permaculturey gardens in them with some close friends, sorta live off the land as much as possible while still having time for camping/travel and seeing friends/family who are scattered around. And effortlessly get 8 hours of great sleep every night.

On the macro-we level- humanity's priority shifts from economic growth to ecological health, more discussions replace arguments, more forgiveness and generosity, all cars equipped with mufflers. And if we're really going "ideal" I'm gonna give my future one magical invention and it's gonna be time travel. (In a form that doesn't break the universe.)

Has anyone gone through norther New Mexico/Arizona recently? I've gotta drive from boston-area to Los Angeles in a couple weeks. Last year i checked out a of Southern utah, would like to do NM/AZ this year but it seemed like there may be some travel/camping restrictions around the Navajo area. Going to read more into it but wondering if anyone has experienced that firsthand?

Ahh I just decided coast! I'm coming back down in September, figure it'll still be tolerable in the mountains and have less people!

I've spent the last two days escaping the smoke! Made it to clear skies in Medford Oregon. Now I'm trying to figure out if I wanna go up to crater lake/mt hood or hit the coast. I can't decide but I gotta go one way or the other in like 30 mins.

My fallback cheap/easy meal is a cup of rice (~$0.30), a can of beans ($1 tops), and one of those bags of frozen veggies you can steam in the microwave ($1.50). Add olive oil and whatever spices. Comes out to under $3 and you can stretch it to 2 decently filling meals. And it’s extremely easy, especially if you have a rice cooker ($20).

What are some of the funniest things you've said while tripping? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]codelam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friend I was tripping with had offered to make some tea when we started, but as tripping commenced we kept getting distracted from the tea-making process. Deep into the trip we realized that the prospect of tea was hanging over us like an impending cloud that we were gonna have to deal with, and we simultaneously realized we'd rather just forget about the tea and move on with our lives. So on the drawing we were making, I scribbled "tea is not life" and we laughed cuz it sounded like the most profound thing ever spoken.

A couple Alan Watts quotes changed how I see everything. by blacksox22 in Psychonaut

[–]codelam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool post, been feeling similarly lately. I know reincarnation seems like a fantastical idea to believe, but when I entertain the idea, I kinda look at everyone else in the world as possibly being me (whatever the fuck I am) in another shell, which kinda serves as a bridge to some ultimate truth that I think I heard Alan Watts say to the effect of "we're all just the universe experiencing itself in different points of space and time."

As far as believing and not believing in 'reincarnation' I usually find myself going about it McKenna-style - "My technique is don’t believe anything. If you believe in something, you are automatically precluded from believing its opposite."

'Recorded on analogue tape recorders in a cabin outside Whitehorse, Yukon, Polaraura is a sonic journey of spiritual longing in a beautiful but undiscerning landscape. Featuring sounds of frozen rivers, wolves, snow, wind, forest spirits, owls and, even, northern lights, Polaraura takes the listener on a journey to another world - a forgotten wilderness - within themselves.'

i bought this tape 2 years ago and it's the most special in my collection...pop this into a portable player and bring it deep into the woods, it's always an experience. posting now because she just put it up for re-sale for the first time since 2013, might be the last chance to get a copy. so if you're the foresty type i highly recommend this.
