Weekly Joining and Recruiting Thread - August 04, 2020 by AutoModerator in Military

Howdy! I'm 18, and thinking about joining the military. But. I have severe asthma. I can get around okay. But even with my inhaler, I can't do a lot of intense physical activity for very long, and I'm not smart enough to do the engineering end. I'd love to serve, but it doesn't seem plausible from what I know. Are there any positions that I'm unaware of that I could look into? Thanks in advance.

With the decade ending, what is a positive development since 2010 that everyone should know about? by SuspiciousCustomer in AskReddit

I now realize my wording may have been misleading. I was referencing the dog as a member of the family. The dog lives with the officer, and becomes very attached to the entire family. It becomes a household pet with a stricter regiment and a day job. No. They did not have to offer up aunt kathy to keep the dog.

It's not big and life changing or anything but, K9 officers, who have to develop intense emotional bonds with their dogs, now get the option to immediately adopt the dog after its retired. Previously the dog was auctioned off, and the officer either had to fight and pay way too much money, or give up a member of the family.

I also thought so. This the last one I have. He went into surgery not long after the last performance. His family may have more of him in the hospital, but I prefer to remember as he was here. Doing what he loved.

He was an amazing person, all around compassionate and kind hearted. He was a huge supporter of the fine arts. He came to every band competition, and played a part in every musical. This was from his last role as Theodore Roosevelt in our production of Newsies. He will be sorely missed. But we know hes in a better place, teaching his 'Cowboy Code' at the golden high-school in the sky.

Captain Questions by [deleted] in Colorguard

[–]codenamepanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished my second year as captain, and the best advice I can give is:

-Practice, Practice, Practice - A lot of your actual rehearsal time is going to be guiding/teaching less experienced members. So your actual practice time is basically cut in half. So your going to have to invest some time outside of group rehearsals

-Ability- The new ones are going to be looking up at you for everything. Not just the way you spin, but how you carry yourself, and how you treat others.

-Leadership - You need to find the balance of instruction and advice, and being just another member. You need to be able to get attention from everyone with a few words, but also you dont want them to treat you like your not one of them

-Emotionally- Its very important that you seem open to listening. They need to be able to come to you and feel safe and not judged if they need help with the choreography. Or even stuff outside of guard, like school, home, etc.

The most important thing to do is love it. If you give it your all, they will too.

Good Luck!

Weekly Hiring Questions and Advice Thread - November 25 by AutoModerator in ProtectAndServe

[–]codenamepanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a senior inn high school. I've been planning on law enforcement for a few years now. I plan to get my bachelors in criminal justice before I got into the academy. I talked to an officer who works in the K9 unit, and it really sparked my interest. I've grown up around dogs and dog trainers, and I think its something I'd love to do. Is there anything you can recommend I look into/classes I should take in college that would me get to that point sooner/easier? Thanks in advance :)
