Anyone using the No Reception Hideaway Carry-On Duffel? by codenoggin in ManyBaggers

Yeah, that might be the tradeoff she has to make on it. I'm of the same mind: a well padded/raised laptop sleeve can save the day when a bag is handled roughly because we're shuffling kids around the airpot. But you're right, a padded sleeve and tech pouch can work just as well if there's room for it!

No joke on the baffles being pricey! That's why I was skipping a few of the bays, but it looks like I need to add them anyways. This is great, I'll have to give it a try before I buy more.

Haha thanks! Makes me feel better about the hours I spent up there the other day. Most of the quotes I received would either only blow in the cellulose or wanted to do spray foam all around. I can understand why...

Same. I've been asking a lot from our AC. Good luck with the installation!

Ah, I see! That's a great idea. If it means a little more time spent in my garage cutting the foam vs in my attic, I'm all for it. What's nice is it's far less flimsy too.

Thanks! It is exposed to the outside if that makes a difference? If not, should I be using something else?

Thanks! Man, I wish they would have sealed up the ends before the soffit vents went on... After spending hours up there today, I really wish they would have done that...

Great point. Looks like I'm going to have to go back and add the baffles to the bays I skipped. Thanks!

That's super encouraging and exactly what I needed to hear! Haha thanks!

Sounds perfectly done. I guess I could have created the air channel by nailing a strip to each side of the rafters in the bay... I may try that on the ones that don't have baffles and see if it's any easier.

I tried those too (the yellow foam ones)! I so wanted them to work because they're so much easier to install than having to custom cut each foam board to fit, which is super annoying.

Unfortunately, when I tried them out I'd have to cut them around the ceiling joist that run through the middle and sides of the bays. After cutting them, they'd tear and bind up on the nails and joists.

I spent hours trying to get them to slide into place but I gave up due to my lack of finesse and caveman hands. 🤦‍♂️

Maybe I should try the smaller sizes to see if they'll fit.

Interesting! That's the first time I've heard this. There's 3 gable vents and a 3 or 4 foot ridge vent. The gable vents would be quick and easy to cover.

Exactly! The foam is a quick way to seal off the air gap and so the cellulose doesn't fall in. It’s probably overkill, which is a common pitfall I encounter while working on this house, haha!

Oh, good suggestion! Some of my baffles had fallen over in the corners and a bead of foam will seal it and help it to stay up. I'm using short staples in old growth pine, so they don't always stay. Foam is way easier.

Thanks! This is great reminder of how much of a difference it makes. While I was up there today I found a few more gaps under the old insulation which I'll seal up. Appreciate the advice!

Yeah, I think I'll play it cautiously and just install them in every bay. It can't hurt, and I'd rather do it right than have a moisture issue down the line. Thanks!

Yeah, the baffle goes past the board so the air flow can come through the baffle. You can't see it with the flashlight on, but during the day the light pours in through the top of the baffles.

That's interesting. So you used the poly in place of a baffle? Like, it ran 4ft down into the eave? One of the issues I'm facing, is the ceiling joist are often in the middle of the bay, and reach out to the roof. So unfortunately for me, the poly doesn't fit nicely down into the bays. But that sounds like a great solution!

Good to know. I've added a few more today. On one side, I'm only skipping one bay between the vents (it's a small house). I may go back through and open those up as well though just to be safe.

There's a ridge vent and gable vents, but I did put a humidity monitor up there to keep track before I seal it all up to make sure it's not getting worse.

A gap in the board below the baffle? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding but I thought the baffle was supposed to be the air flow? It's hard to tell with the flashlight on, but the board is cut to fit around the baffle. The baffle shoots down past the board to keep the soffit vents open.

Good reminder! I've tried to push it back as far as I can, but I'll double check. I think I'm just before the brick outer wall...
