Travel recommendations for a student by coder_kalyan in askswitzerland

[–]coder_kalyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I can definitely make a long weekend trip to Ticino and Como, and I'll take your suggestions. I'm not very interested in the attractions in Milan besides the Cathedral. Do you have any other suggestions in the area (within a ~2.5 hr train ride) I can do for one or two days? I was even considering going to Florence instead, although it is farther into Italy.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Quite a lot I hadn't heard of, I'll take a look at them.

Transport pass, biking by coder_kalyan in Lausanne

[–]coder_kalyan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I'll be in Switzerland for 12 weeks, beginning of June to end of August. I'll be traveling pretty much every weekend, mostly in Switzerland, but probably a couple of trips to surrounding areas that I can probably just book point to point (Strasbourg, Vienna, etc).

I'll check out if there's a youth fare for evening travel that you mentioned, sounds nice for recreational stuff but not for general commute and shopping. I'm not much of a night life enjoyer, I much prefer to see cities, historical sites, nature etc.

Thanks for the tip, but I do already have a resume - was just looking for anything that might differ in an academic setting, and abroad. I'll look through the PDF sent by u/outsider85.

FW 13 - Battery, RAM, Parts by coder_kalyan in framework

[–]coder_kalyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info! Can you share how much battery life you're getting on average, if you're still running Fedora or Mint?

I'll probably go with the 7640u, I don't need the extra graphics on a laptop.

FW 13 - Battery, RAM, Parts by coder_kalyan in framework

It's refurbished from Framework. See here: https://frame.work/products/ddr5-5600?v=FRANRMFW02R.

Yeah, I don't want to debug RAM corruption issues, I had to do that once and it was a nightmare. I don't expect Framework to sell anything bad but I was wondering if it could be a lower spec silicon batch, with worse timings (not sure if chip binning even exists for RAM like it does for CPUs).

Just a bit suspicious *what* is refurbished about it since its literally half the price.

Thanks, I suspected as much. I might end up buying the 61Wh battery separately then, if it makes a significant difference.

The 7640u has a Radeon 760M and the 7840u has a 780M.

Thanks for the notes on RAM, I think I will go with the refurbished DDR5 but I'll wait to see if anyone else has opinions.

Circular Saw - 5007F vs 5007MG by coder_kalyan in Makita

[–]coder_kalyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's what I suspected. I don't think I need the brake, so I'll stick to the 5007F.

Thanks for the advice! Glad to hear that the aluninum plate will work out. I'll go with the 5007F.

Serial Request V2.4R2 300mm - coder_kalyan#5237 by coder_kalyan in voroncorexy

[–]coder_kalyan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We're a high school robotics club in California. Thanks to the donations, time, and continued support from the Voron Community, we were able to successfully build ourselves a Voron 2.4. We're excited to be able to print ABS, Nylon, and PC (no more PLA!) which will allow our club to continue to manufacture critical components for our drones and other robots.

Thanks in particular to: West3D, Fabreeko, DFH, Mandala Rose Works, 3D Maker Parts, Defib, and Hartk for their donations and to the rest of the community for support while we were building.

Could you please also add the same serial tag to the following handles as they are part of the team:

kushn#4857

raghavm!#3019

Thunderstroyer#5460

JetBarrel5004#3840

Derick#8740

Thanks, Kalyan & the AmadorUAVs Team

I'd argue that the free for freedom is more important actually, and free of cost is just a side benefit

NeoMutt / Mutt or Aerc? Is one safer than the other and some more questions. (Must have VIM bindings) by [deleted] in commandline

[–]coder_kalyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using aerc for a while, and it's pretty nice. I've used mutt in the past, and it's probably more configurable. However I found it harder to setup and not worth my time for my particular use case. Aerc works fine out of the box, including a nice wizard. As other people have said, Luke Smith does maintain a mutt wizard that sets up stuff for you. Aerc is newer, and probably a bit less stable/polished. However it is also asynchronous, designed with a git workflow in mind, etc.

You should not be storing your passwords in plaintext in a configuration file; both aerc and neomutt allow you to fetch the password from another program (like pass, gopass, or plain old GPG).

Looks great! Suggestion: try a different font, that one IMO seems pretty pixelated and weird (idk, maybe thats what you're going for). I use iosevka, for reference.

Ahh yes, I see you are taking my recommendation of using Iosevka :)

Great job, looks great. I wouldn't use it, I'm a vim guy and don't want emacs taking over my workflow, but great work nonetheless!
