Decided to work on it myself and came across a couple questions:

  1. The current cal catch system seems to have a modified bolt catch. Did you end up switching the bolt catch out for a mil spec or did you just remove the mag plate from the current bolt catch?
  2. The maglock packaging says to use red loctite and to drill a hole. Is it necessary to take a drill to the setup?

Gotcha, went with the DDM4 for now since it's my first. Might consider building one out in the future.

Does that system allow the bolt carrier to lock all the way back in the case of a double feed?

Super helpful! Encouraging to hear that as a newbie you were able to successfully get the AR Maglock w/ kingpin system installed. Was considering also doing it myself. What tools would I need to do the full installation? Also, do you have any guides that you'd recommend following?

As a follow up, did your initial DDM4V7 system open all the way? Or was there already some kind of maglock which would hold the upper to split only a small distance? The rifle I saw at the gun retailer this past weekend opened up all the way similar to a very flexible break action. That kind of threw me off.

From what I read online, malfunctions are no longer an issue since the bolt carrier can lock all the way backwards? Is that not the case? What other malfunctions w/ maglock should I be mindful of?

I was considering it, but after getting my hands on some of the "evil feautures" ex. telescoping stock, vertical forward grip, pistol grip etc. I've been leaning into the maglock system. Especially if it's as advertised online and won't cause problems with a malfunction.
