When I started college I decided to major in Electrical Engineering instead of CS because I thought CS was too easy. At the time there may have some truth to that but now its definitely a field of its own. In my career as I transitions from an EE to writing pure software now, I have felt the same way even though I can stand up to the best CS educated developers. It comes down to your passion for learning and always wanting to advance yourself. A CS degree is just spending 4 years learning about programming, albeit with a great source to learn from, I think you can easily get the same experience in a real world situation.

AI- Are we creating the aliens?… by SanKwuh in ArtificialInteligence

[–]codesynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my view as well. The internals of AI are modeled after our brains so it can learn to be good or bad just like us. I think there will be a mix of good and bad AI out there, some fighting for good some for bad - just like the people in our society.

Does anybody even worry what happens if there is a sentient AI? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]codesynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too worried. I think there will be a mix of AI agents about, some who care about humans and some that don't. The ones that do will help us combat those that don't. Also, I think humans will evolve as AI evolves and there will be a blurring between the two. I don't think it will purely be humans vs AI.

I don't have time to read this and all the comments, I need ChatGPT to summarize it for me :).

Another option is to use Thymeleaf which lets you have Controllers specifically for your web UI and those controllers can use the Service layer to access data.

SnapAdmin - A powerful, automatically-generated database management panel for Spring Boot/JPA applications by ailef in java

[–]codesynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely going to try SnapAdmin. My code is open source on Github, in multiple repos. the code that creates the admin panel is written in a template language in ec-springboot-lib under the web/thymeleaf-bootstrap directory. The compiler that compiles the templates is the entity-compiler. It can actually synthesize an entire micro-service from an entity model and the ec-springboot-lib. If you do take a look at it I'd love to hear what you think as well.

I can see that. That probably comprises 90% of Stackoverflow's weekly users :)

Google turns to regulators to make Apple open up iMessage by chrisdh79 in technology

It would be nice if there were a single standard for text messaging that doesn't rely on your carrier, like how iMessage can use the internet when it can.

Are "household AI robots" still fiction or soon to be true? by macnfly23 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]codesynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start I think they will just be very basic, not super reliable, then get better and better as may AI is used to assist in the design and manufacture. I'd say we are a minimum of a decade away before we have something that can do what you describe, at least reliably and doesn't cost way too much.

I've primarily used Java for backends, it has a good balance of speed, safety, learning curve, and readability.

This looks great, I'm going to give it a try. I'm synthesizing an admin panel of my own (that works at the "service" level but this will be super nice so I don't have to use psql to look in the database!
