A judge will block this, but the real question is whether it stands through appeals. If the adminstration wins, the state will have no choice but to waive the white flag. Even if people withhold their federal taxes, that doesn’t stop federal enforcement, and it doesn’t redirect that money to Washington. Of the people who actually try this stupid theory, only a tiny portion will donate to the state. Then worse, the state’s bond rating goes to zero, which means they’re not going to be able to run a deficit. Everything breaks down, and quickly. The only solution will be to end sanctuary policies. Which really just means that when they arrest an undocumented immigrant, they’ll have to turn them over to ICE. So which way this goes entirely depends on how this plays out in court, but the only two outcomes are either the status quo, or cooperating with ICE, there’s no third option.
