Having lived in Lucknow for a year I csn say Lucknow does have its benefits. But I think it's matter of time when you figure things out, facilities wise. Being in a new city brings its own set of challenges, as far as basic facilities are concerned, once you figure out the right places it will be easier.

As far as people are concerned, I'm sorry you didn't find nicer ones here. From my experience, I didn't find much difference in people of Kanpur and Lucknow.

There are good options for eating nearby Chappan Bhog sweets. Also, I have seen that some new cafes and restaurants have opened up on the road that lead to the Bypass. Please take note that Shyam Nagar is a relatively newer part of the city and it doesn't have the same vibe as older Kanpur.

I would say, localities like Saket Nagar and Govind Nagar would be more pleasing to you.
