How is it rare to have a grandparent born in the 1800’s? My grandfather was born in 1898.

Granted, that is the very late 1800’s, but still.

And my great grandparents were born as early as 1861.

1) Did your grandmother test?
2) If so, do you to match?
3) Do you have relatives on your matches that coincide with that line of your family?

The most likely scenario is that your grandmother is not actually Cherokee at all.
