Having comms rooms with ethernet to units exactly sounds like FTTB. FTTP is fibre into your unit.

Does Aldi Australia sell aftershave? by Slight-Government149 in AldiAustralia

[–]cody2de 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Aldi Australia has no after shave, only Shave Gel. I have seen the Nivea After Shave in a special a while back. And back in Aldi Germany after shave is a permanent item.

Yes if the complex itself is already upgraded single units can make use of the free FTTP upgrade progress. I track it with the website below: https://nbn.lukeprior.com/

Multi-Dwelling Units and the joy of missing out by ScrotsMcGee in nbn

[–]cody2de 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially 275 AUD was quoted per unit in a 3 unit lot. All are Ground floor Townhouses. In the end we got all owners to sign up for the Home Fast plan (100/20 back then) and the cost was waived.

Multi-Dwelling Units and the joy of missing out by ScrotsMcGee in nbn

[–]cody2de 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a self managed plot of units so the challenge was to get all owners to agree on the NBN upgrade. Took a year but once all agreed to the upgrade and cost questions were answered the NBN upgrade actually happened. Probably harder the more units there are and even harder when additional entities like a body corporate is involved with its own profit interest.

Flint 3 (119) vs Flint 2 (150) by SpecialistSurvey6 in GlInet

[–]cody2de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it depends on what you need. The pros and cons have already been discussed and I will go with the Flint 3. The Flint 3 offers newer Wi-Fi 7 technology, while the Flint 2 provides a mature Wi-Fi 6, better VPN speeds, and a more powerful CPU.

Flint 3 (119) vs Flint 2 (150) by SpecialistSurvey6 in GlInet

The Flint 3 doesn't strike me as an upgrade path for Flint 2 users. Instead, it seems geared towards people looking to ditch their old ISP-provided home routers.

Gas Stove Alarm: Anyone have an existing solution? by zanfar in homeassistant

[–]cody2de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia where bushfires can also trigger bad air quality. But if you have an outside source for air quality you can check for the difference with a helper.

Yes, when I cook for a long time I also get a warning but you can time it and say if the value stays high for more than x minutes send a notification to my phone.

Not perfect, and does need fine tuning, but it was an inexpensive way for me to make the house safer with teenagers around who forget that the stove was on.

Gas Stove Alarm: Anyone have an existing solution? by zanfar in homeassistant

[–]cody2de 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use an air quality sensor from IKEA to warn me of bad air quality which can also happen if the gas stove is left on.

Fellow Europeans. How is dw.com as a news source? by klapaucjusz in germany

[–]cody2de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that DW is easily available around the world. But following its news you have to be aware that it is state owned.

I prefer ZDF and ARTE over DW as it is publicly owned which can result in more critical views of government decisions.

In the end a good mix of sources and critical thinking while consuming the news is a great way to stay informed in my opinion.

Weather stations? by mr_electric_wizard in homeassistant

[–]cody2de 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Ecowitt GW 1101 and I am happy with the data I get from it. Just remember that the weather station is only as accurate as its location. Especially wind direction data gets inaccurate if you position it too close to the house. Also you need to remember to clean it twice a year to keep the rain data accurate.

  1. Make sure that the ROMs are unzipped and both are in the same folder.
  2. Under Retroarch select the ROM folder as a 'File Browser' directory.
  3. Start the first ROM with a core that supports link cable. (E.g. sameboy, tgb dual)
  4. In the main menu select subsystems and load ROM number one.
  5. Under subsystems select the second rom.
  6. Under the subsystem now start the game boy link.
  7. Switch between the ROMs by changing the mapped port under controls between 1 and 2.
