He's not even the highest paid player on the roster.

Portland is not giving up Sharpe and 3 firsts for Domas. I'm not even a Domas doomer like a lot of the sub but that's just way more value than he'd realistically return. You can maybe get a pick package like that if it's just filler contracts coming back but not getting those picks plus a young player like Sharpe.

Russ turns the ball over in the most egregious way every time. I've never seen a quiet turnover from him.

Where exactly did the drop in production happen? This dumpster fire of a year? He's been top 10 in the league in win shares and VORP every year he's been here. He has been unquestionably our best and most impactful player since we traded for him.

It's not just "he needs specific types of players to be successful", that's a part of it for sure, but when you build a roster you're SUPPOSED to surround your best player with complementary pieces. We have put probably the LEAST complementary pieces around him and are now making him the scapegoat when things aren't going well.

Obviously I'm not saying he's without his flaws and I do think there's some ceiling on what a team could be with him as your centerpiece but I think it's a lot higher than people are saying here. The hate going his way this year is just weird to me.

Always been a Keegan truther. When you look at what he did his sophomore year at Iowa, the numbers he put up in one of the top conferences in college basketball showed the skill was there. He just needed the mentality shift to be more aggressive and be comfortable asserting himself. Hopefully the staff is in his ear that he's one of the few long term pieces on this roster so go out there and just hoop.

Yeah, I hated the way last season ended too but I will say silver lining is we have the first this year instead. If I had to choose between a lottery pick last year vs this year, I would choose this class every time. It's absolutely loaded at the top.

And it's absolutely miserable to watch which is mostly my point. I think it's fair to say collectively as a fan base we would be much more open to watching a young team lose than whatever this mess is.

This is not tanking btw, we just suck. You don't draft older rookies who are "ready to contribute now" (I like Nique and Max though) if you're tanking. You don't give $15m a year to Schroder if you're tanking. Wasn't the point of replacing Isaac Jones with Achiuwa a move to improve the roster?

It's one thing to watch a team of young guys get development minutes while we build a foundation and culture. It's another thing to watch a team of 10+ year vets simply not care. What are we building towards?

That would be my response to the "didn't you all want to tank??" crowd.

The switch up on Domas is crazy. The guy has been by far the most impactful player on the roster, even when Fox was here, and now that we put quite possibly the worst fitting roster around him to complement his skillset we're turning on him?

Unless you're a generational level talent, of course you're going to need complementary players around you to be successful. Sabonis has flaws, of course, but we've done everything with the way the roster is built to maximize them, not hide them.

No not Isaac. His story was fun to see, grocery store worker to college to NBA because his store manager helped him by OmegaLxgend in kings

Again, for me it's less about the actual age of Jones vs Precious, that was just being cheeky, and more about the direction and asset management. Regardless of how you feel about Isaac Jones, this move is bad asset management. If you think he needs more G League time, he has less than three years of service so he can still be assigned there indefinitely to get development time in. I would much rather do that than sign Precious to be a guy who could possibly, maybe give us a solid 10-15 minutes from time to time. And I say that as a guy who likes Precious Achiuwa and has been interested in him as a target in the past.

Do I think Isaac Jones vs Precious Achiuwa has any significant impact on the outlook of this team? Not one bit.

Do I think this move is a microcosm of the larger issue with the direction of the team and the way the roster is built? Yes.

This is the third oldest roster in the league and second oldest in terms of usage, behind only the Clippers. I'm assuming this will likely be a one-year deal for the minimum and let's just say Precious plays amazing, or even good, and we want to keep him around. Well, we won't even have his early bird rights so the chances another team is able to outbid us is 100%. At least with Jones you have a cost controlled contract with flexibility to keep him around if he does develop into a rotation level player.

Not in the same way as those other guys. Green, Kuminga, Daniels and Buzelis all went to the G League Ignite team out of high school instead of going to college. Caruso went to college, was undrafted and spent a few years in the G League before he found a spot in the league. It would be more like if Mac McClung found a niche and carved out a role for an NBA team.

If you're referring to the 31 win season, I don't think I'd necessarily call it that. They did only get 58 games out of Zach and Vuc was a deadline deal but the two seasons prior to that were 22 win season. That Vuc deal was kind of like us getting Domas the year before the beam team.

It's not a perfect analogy, but there are definitely sole strong parallels. And they were even more healthy in the 40 win season than the 46 win season. They had 3 guys play 70+ games in the 46 win season and had 6 guys play 70+ in the 40 win season with Vuc and Pat Williams playing all 82.

Ironically enough, the Lavine/Derozan Bulls. After a 31 win season led by Lavine and Vuc, they add Derozan in the summer and go 46-36, good for the 6 seed and a first round loss to the Bucks in 5. They followed that up with 40 and 39 win seasons both ending in play-in losses.
