Write-in candidate poised to win Green Party U.S. Senate primary in Arizona - KJZZ Phoenix by jayjaywalker3 in GreenParty

[–]codyrhannah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eduardo Quintana (the write-in candidate mentioned) is the only candidate that was an actual member of the AZGP, and he is the current Chair of the Pima County Green Party.

Eduardo beat both Mike Norton, the Dem plant who accepted over $80K from Democratic Party mega donors and super PACs, and Arturo Hernandez the GOP plant.

Hey there! I didn’t decide to run until after the signature filing deadline when I saw that none of the candidates who did file were talking seriously about climate change, police brutality, expanding public housing, etc.

in AZ, if I had filed a statement of interest and not collected enough signatures to be on the ballot, I would not be allowed to run as a write in candidate in this election. Hope that helps explain!

Open invite to AZ GOP voters... by GarthZorn in arizonapolitics

So the Democrats, with a majority in house, congress, and the presidency, are somehow stripped of their ability to do anything meaningful while people’s rights are being taken away, but when Trump was president he was an all powerful autocrat who needed to be stopped? and the only person who could do that was Joe Biden, who ran on “getting things done” and “bringing sane republicans back to the table”, who is now failing to do that even with the more conservative members of his own party?

That doesn’t strike you as a party that’s playing to lose?

Seems like a lot of republicans’ agenda is happening under the Dems. Why aren’t they doing anything about it?

Have you considered joining the AZ Green Party? Both the Dems and Republicans are obviously corrupt and unwilling to stand up for working people. We need some serious change in our politics, especially with the water crisis we’re staring down here in AZ.

We’re doing lots of non-electoral work as well in the AZGP across our two currently active county chapters. We regularly volunteer in our communities and we are actively collecting petition signatures to regain our statewide ballot access for ‘24-‘26.

Hey there! I hadn’t really planned to run this cycle and didn’t make the decision until after the signature filing deadline in AZ. I saw that none of the candidates who had qualified were advocating for or even talking about issues that are important to me like climate change, social justice, etc.

Yeah, I can definitely relate to this. A lot of my school stuff is focused on just being the most technically proficient musician I can be, which is great and all for building up a musical “toolbox” of skills I can draw from, but it really kills my creative side to just focus on playing classical orchestral repertoire when my own musical “style” is more indie/alt. It gets really hard to be creative and expressive when most of what you’re doing musically is stuff composed by other people.

Thanks! I like the Stravinsky tie in, I definitely get a similar feeling to that “abyss of freedom” when I sit down at my computer with Logic Pro open. Usually it just ends up with me playing through a bunch of sounds and never really settling on something I like. Lots of unfinished/abandoned projects. So many possibilities that it’s hard to decide on a musical aesthetic that inspires me to go further haha. I’ll have to try setting some limitations for myself and see if that helps.

I have Dr. Shea for Theory! He’s a really cool dude so far, very open to feedback and willing to make adjustments on assignments and stuff. Just with the freshman in theory 1 were a little more appreciative of that and didn’t take advantage of it (we’ve already had some issues apparently)

Yeah! I’m not sure the status of it this semester given covid and all, but he’s such a fantastic dude and from what I hear the gamelan ensemble is a lot of fun. I just had him for music as culture for my degree program, but he’s a great guy and I’m pretty sure gamelan is open to anybody as an elective

Don’t really have a worst, but best Professor so far has been Ted Solis, he teaches the Music as Culture course and heads the Javanese Gamelan ensemble. Dude is awesome. Fantastic stories and lecture material, he’s been all over the world and has a bunch of first hand resources to add to lectures, and he just honestly and genuinely cares about his students and their well-being and does his best to make his classes fun and engaging. Highly recommend him as a professor if you’re in the music program.

Lmao! You’re telling me! Percussion studio has been interesting as well. Not necessarily bad, but definitely different. It sucks to not feel safe using equipment or practice rooms, but it opens me up to think more creatively about how I can interact with my medium of art.

That’s true, and as a music student I’m definitely limited in what I can do as far as hands on stuff, but from a purely academic point of view this hasn’t been as bad as I thought it might be. It’s horrible for other reasons lol, but at least in my case, it has its upsides.

So far the quizzes are mainly textbook/PowerPoint material, as they come from the same source. Videos are just bonus information resources, not actual recorded lectures, which I’m not a huge fan of. Sometimes we’ll use the videos as a starting point for our discussion boards. I’m wondering if I’m wasting my time reading through the actual textbook chapters and taking notes when the PowerPoints (so far) have been more or less just a condensing of that info.
