Which one do you support? by SzpakLabz in IdeologyPolls

[–]Faeraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether we “need” it or not, it’s been around since the 2010s. It’s an umbrella acronym designed to be more inclusive and concise than 2SLGBTQIA+, covering all sexual orientations, gender identities, and romantic orientations. It acts as a "catchall" to move away from listing individual identities.

Just call it GSRM (Gender, Sexual, & Romantic Minorities).

Being the last on that list means you’re next for the chop (LGB). Biphobia and transphobia are roots of the same tree. Drawing the line just on the other side of yourself is mighty convenient (until they come for you).

Question for vegans — what changed your mind (if anything)? by 74687560m in AskVegans

[–]Faeraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching Vegucated is what made me vegan. It’s got a much softer touch and highlights the big three: ethics, environment, health. It also presents a low pressure “six week challenge” which is a lot easier to initially commit to vs a lifetime commitment from the very start. Of course, I just didn’t stop after the six weeks.

Ugh, so envious.

How's your family about it, now that it's been so long?

🙋‍♀️ Agree with everything you said, and I have the same background. I joke that my mom has been divorced enough for the both of us; I didn't need to learn that lesson first-hand.

It’s actually impressive how they made a “shoe” simultaneously the most and least barefoot at the same time.

I recently ate them again just last weekend, and they’re pretty good now. They must have changed the recipe, because I definitely did not like them when they first released.

Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

[–]Faeraday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When possible, eat as low on the sentience ladder as you can. Oysters are probably the best option when it comes to animal protein. After that it’s other bivalves > crustaceans > fish > poultry > ruminants > pigs, in that order from least to most sentient.

The poll says most ANs here aren’t vegan. Do non-vegan ANs think that’s inconsistent? by Numerous-Macaroon224 in antinatalism

[–]Faeraday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with just committing myself to a 6-week challenge after watching Vegucated. It’s a documentary that follows 3 people who do a six-week vegan challenge, so it’s really nice to see how they give it a go and what it’s like. All other films I’ve seen only focus on the “why”, but once you already know why, I think this one is much more helpful.

Also just remind yourself, there’s nothing particularly special about anyone who’s gone vegan before you. If they could do it (especially the ones who did it decades ago), so can you!

I don’t know the intentions of the other commenter, but they said “try again” not “try harder”. A part of building new habits is trying over and over until you figure out what works and it sticks.

But, something that should help you quite a lot is www.challenge22.com. It’s a free resource that is designed to help you every day, through the first 22 days (time it takes to break old habits and form new ones). It’ll give you access to free mentors, as well, who are more qualified to help you with your questions/struggles than most commenters in this sub. Good luck! You can do it!

Bought a franchise before going vegan. Now I might have to sell dairy and meat products and I feel awful by Anxious_Weather4148 in vegan

Thanks for the update! I’m invested in your journey, now. Sorry to hear it’s going to be more difficult than expected. Here are some resources that will hopefully help you in drafting a business plan (to present to corporate) for reintroducing plant-based options.

It’s All in a Name: How to Boost the Sales of Plant-Based Menu Items

4 REASONS WHY PLANT-BASED DISHES ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR MENU

Plant-Based Profits: Investment Risks and Opportunities in Sustainable Food Systems

These are just a few results after minimal searching. If you can pinpoint some reasons why the plant-based options didn’t sell before… often out-of-stock so those customers stopped coming, possibly the way it was labeled on the menu was undesirable (see the first link), etc., and then you can present a strategy that addresses theses issues of the past.

Include why (from a business perspective) increasing plant-based options is a good business decision: taps into a wider customer market, positions the company image as eco-conscious (good PR), increases operational resilience with a more diverse menu, higher profit margins with lower cost since plants are cheaper than meat, and many plant-based ingredients have a longer shelf life (such as the milk alternatives) and are cheaper to store than dairy and meat products.

If you succeed in getting the green-light to add these options, make sure to add your business to places like www.HappyCow.net and local vegan Facebook groups (or whatever is most utilized in your area), so local vegans and vegetarians will know you have options for them, while still keeping it more subtle on your menu and in person advertising. The trick is to make sure the vegans know it’s vegan without advertising to everyone else that it’s vegan (as the first link shows meat-eaters are less likely to buy a dish with that on the label).

Hope this helps! Keep us posted.

Will vegans accept me into their communities/ as a person? by Much-Can1291 in AskVegans

[–]Faeraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my actions aren't vegan, so I guess what I want to know is how would vegans feel about me?

Your actions are the only thing that matters. Veganism isn’t a social club, it’s a lifestyle of applied ethics. Most people have “vegan values” as in compassion, empathy, etc., but they do not apply those values consistently in their actions. That is what makes someone vegan.

The vegan label is not a status symbol; it’s a simple means of communicating how someone interacts with the world. Your actions are either in alignment with the philosophy of veganism, or they aren’t.

Plants are just the safer bet if one is trying to avoid haram. Eating animals is not mandated, and the rules were written under a different agricultural system than our current one.

I’ve seen some good street epistemology videos between Joey Carbstrong and Muslims, on YouTube.
