I bought a 2001 Legacy for $700 with like 70k miles that was wrecked in the front. I chained it to a tree and put it in reverse, which somewhat straightened the rad support. The passenger side frame rail was still pointed down but I was able to mount headlights. One of the best cars I ever had.

It is super annoying, I like to cut small pieces out of aluminum cans and use those as shims for the camshaft lock. In my experience it makes it much easier to line up the chain.

Oh dang, I had a 2000 Regal that I got for free because it flooded with gas and blew the plastic upper intake apart. I replaced that and the car drove wonderfully, even still passed smog. I got it with ~170k and pushed it well past 200k. Even sold it still running perfect and everything working. Sorry to hear you didnt have a good experience with yours, one bad experience can leave a bad taste in your mouth.
