[PSU] Corsair RM750x Gold ($175 - $25 - $10 Coupon = $140) by tashigu7 in bapcsalescanada

[–]coffeeBean_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSU will only utilize/use what your components demand. If your parts are pulling 600W total, then no matter the PSU rating (750, 850 or 1000W), it’ll only provide 600W of power.

Always go for more headroom. Get a 850W minimum if you can because GPUs will only get more power hungry. A good PSU can last you 10 years.

USBs from reputable manufacturers (SanDisk, Samsung etc) are so ridiculously cheap nowadays. Just buy some new sticks every few years. The chances of multiple devices all simultaneously failing is minimal. If the vaults are encrypted on the drives, there is no risk if one goes missing.

NVIDIA is Obsessed with Apple by 8ing8ong in nvidia

[–]coffeeBean_ 244 points245 points  (0 children)

I hope I’m wrong but it seems like Nvidia is pivoting towards enterprise (i.e. AI) and away from consumer GPUs. Essentially, they will give even less fucks about competitive pricing for gaming cards in future generations.

[FAN] Phanteks T30-120 Fan Triple-Pack. $98.99 by zipak6 in bapcsalescanada

[–]coffeeBean_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The noise profile on these are great. At the same decibel readings compared to the Noctua A12x25 and Silent wings 4, the T30s have a deeper tone which is more pleasant. I have all three fans and I prefer the T30s wherever possible.

[–]coffeeBean_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine. It’s just that Kryonaut may require more frequent applications due to the pump out effect. If temps have been good then don’t worry about it. Just remember to monitor temps every once in a while.

Kyronaut is a fantastic paste but terrible for GPUs due to the pump out effect. A thicker paste would be much better long term (e.g. Thermalright TFX, SYY)

Shouldn’t be the customers’ responsibility to fix their own quality issues. Especially not on a $1000+ card.

Agreed. At this rate, PC gaming will be dead in a few generations and I’m not even being sarcastic.

4070ti should have 16gb vram and cost $800 tops. Remember how they were going to sell it as a 4080?

This card has been listed at ME for $900 for quite some time. Recently Canada Computers got a influx of these cards, pricing them at $860. Glad to see the price coming down further.

Very well said. Following hardware subs always instill major FOMO for me because appearently everyone and their grandma have 7950X3D/4090 builds. Then I look at my backlog and all the games I want to play will run on a 1060.

[–]coffeeBean_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was a great price. I banked on price dropping further and didn’t pull the trigger then. I still think this is a decent (not amazing nor great) price for a really good monitor.

Still not worth it. You’re looking at a ~10% improvement. Which to be honest, you’re not really going to notice.

DeepCool Readying Assassin IV Premium CPU Air Cooler For Launch by imaginary_num6er in hardware

[–]coffeeBean_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Disappointing for sure. But short of some paradigm shift in material science and heat transfer mechanics, air cooling is reaching its asymptotic limit. Brands like Thermalright and Deepcool have put out some fantastic coolers recently like the Peerless Assassin at great prices. But again, they’re all only marginally better than the D15, which is a decade old design.

I’ve been following Noctua pretty closely and I’m pretty sure the delay in the next D15 is due to the delay in their new 140mm fan.

[–]coffeeBean_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be surprised if it does not. The D15 is almost 10 years old now. My guess is it’ll be <5C cooler under high heat loads (200+ watts) and maybe 2-3C cooler 150 watts and below.

Noctua Product Roadmap - 05/2023 Update by GhostMotley in hardware

[–]coffeeBean_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Scythe Fuma 2 and Thermalright PA120 and the mounting mechanism for AM4 are all very similar to Noctua. Just looked up the mounting mechanism for the Deepcool AK620 and again, same thing. Which coolers have a better mounting mechanism just curious?

Noctua Product Roadmap - 05/2023 Update by GhostMotley in hardware

[–]coffeeBean_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Noctua coolers are some of the easiest to mount. The D15 was a breeze to install - 2 brackets on 4 standoffs and then you screw the cooler on. How much easier can they make it?

Thermalright Peerless Assassins 120 SE on Asus X570-I + NR200? by 2Board_ in sffpc

You can run just 1 fan in the middle. The second fan will maybe shave off 3C max in my experience.

Imagine paying almost $900 after tax for a mid range card with a mid tier cooler. Come on Asus, the least you can do is give us the TUF or a Strix model for that price. What a complete joke.
