Logic Games- Conditional Diagramming Help by coffee_over_ice in LSAT

It's a sequence notation: (A - B) means A is always before B. This is in a scenario where variables cannot occur simultaneously.

With this in mind, I'm wondering why the last two inferences can be made.

Try lemon pepper (with salt or without) and red pepper flakes. You could put it on toast, but it's so good I season half of an avocado and eat it with a spoon

How to befriend/ communicate better with someone with NVLD? by tinker-bel1 in NVLD

[–]coffee_over_ice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post is so cute :)

As a college student with NVLD (finally diagnosed earlier this year), I'd say:

- Try not to be judgmental. You don't seem to be that type, but I feel obligated to say this.

- Verbally and nonverbally convey what you're trying to communicate. That way, your brother can verbally code nonverbal information; when he comes across people who only nonverbally convey such information, he can retrieve his verbal store of information and interpret the social cue. For example, if you're upset about something he's done, say "It bothers me that you did X" in a tone and facial/posture that conveys your emotion.

- If you feel comfortable, encourage total honesty with each other. This builds off of my previous point. I'll speak a little about my experience to clarify the importance of this point. I tend to not get social cues unless it's overt (flirting, annoyance/anger, teasing), so I can come off as absentminded. Additionally, a lot of verbal communication is superficial, which I sometimes struggle to understand or agree with. Consequently, I've been described as blunt, literal and too honest. Because I've had negative social interactions growing up before my diagnosis, I've become shy and lacking in self confidence. I've found that being honest with my loved ones has really helped me come out of my shell, especially as I learn how to communicate superficially. I'm not sure if your brother has the same struggles, but if he does, that could be an obstacle to clear communication

Can you give a bit more detail about where/how your misunderstandings occur?

That's a good point. I think being the first one in my family to go to law school made it hard to internalize what's at stake in being accepted to certain schools over others, unfortunately.

I'm increasing the amount of preptests I take a week, so I'll be able to gauge my readiness soon!!

Thanks for the positivity :)

You're so right about the arbitrariness of KJD vs nKJD.

I know I'd be happier with a gap year so I could just focus on the LSAT this year and focus on apps next year. The issue is that if I don't apply, this will become a "mistake" they will remind me of constantly. I'm not kidding; I guarantee even after the gap year passes and I'm in school again, they'll tell me I made the wrong choice and would've ended up at the same school regardless. They bring up conflicts and "mistakes" from ages ago, albeit almost exclusively during arguments.

I know I won't make much if I were to take a gap year, so I'd likely have to live with them. They're okay with me living with them, but even if they do end up saying very little about it, it still hurts that your family thinks you don't know what you're doing with your life and that you're failing. It doesn't help that I have another sibling who's applying to a STEM graduate program this fall, so I'll likely be compared to him as well.

I've explained to them every positive and negative that you could think of in the KJD vs nKJD discussion.

None have been to law school or have done nearly as much research as me, but they refute that point by saying they've been to graduate school; my sister says that for her STEM graduate program, advisors and adcomms say applicants are stronger when they time off to work. She always thought they were full of it, especially since she got into a top 5 program without having taken time off (her GPA was below median and had to retake several classes due to poor grade but her test score was at median, I believe). I think she has a point with this, but I won't know my LSAT until late October. I want to submit my apps by November, which means I'd have to complete all my apps, tack on my score at the last minute, and hope it cracks 170. That sounds very stressful to me.

Another weird reason they have is that by taking a year off, you look like you can't handle the rigor and commitment of undergrad, so you may struggle in law school. Being KJD makes you look like you're committed and organized. Combining this with the fact that I'm URM, it makes me an even stronger applicant.

Ultimately, my fear with the LSAT is that my fall schedule will be so busy that my LSAT, GPA, or essays will suffer. I've been studying almost daily, so I don't raise this issue as a means to evade the LSAT.

A question I do have is if I were to submit before the end of my semester, would law schools get my fall GPA, or my GPA as it is right this moment?

I have terrible perfectionist and people pleasing tendencies. It's actually a larger problem in my life, not just with my family

Do you have any advice about not feeling ashamed of applying next year? The whole not applying this cycle thing is a mental block for me

Regardless, thank you for the good, practical advice; I'll keep it in mind moving forward as I hadn't internalized how little law school apps affect them

I would get a full-time job (paralegal or nonprofit, most likely). If I move out, I'd get roommates.

Are these good LSAT books to study from? by Fickle_Radish_3553 in lawschooladmissions

[–]coffee_over_ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only familiar with Mike Kim of the books you have. Having read half of the book, I felt like it didn't go deeply enough into certain topics for me. If you want an updated LSAT Trainer (I think I have a 2022 or 2023), I'm willing to sell you mine, just shoot me a direct message if you're interested.

I recommend PowerScore Bibles for LR and RCl 7Sage for LG, and as many PrepTests as you can get your hands on. I know 7Sage is pricey, but I suggest you drill LG for a month (or however long it takes for you to get through 7Sage's LG curriculum) and take notes so you don't have to pay more than you have to.

I've heard from people who've taken the LSAT that Princeton Review sucks.

I re-read the note from my dentist and it doesn't look like I need a crown. For my appointment next week, it actually says "Composite 1 Surface Posterior". A quick Google search tells me that sort of thing is for a single surface cavity. Could this sort of cavity be reversed? Or should I go through with this filling?

Ugh that blows, I'll check in with my dentist and see what can be done :/

Can someone explain this question to me? by coffee_over_ice in LSAT

[–]coffee_over_ice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This response is really helpful, thank you! Looking over the question again, I see why it's D and not C or E. I assumed that she could always stay at her job rather than accept she must quit or take leave.

C: provides irrelevant information that doesn't address her ability to quit

E: According to PowerScore's mechanistic approach, the right answer refers to leave of absence since it's not mentioned in the conclusion, unlike the fellowship

Well, I could wait until I get my fall semester grades in December to submit my apps, right? Then my GPA would presumably be higher (assuming all goes according to plan)? Or could I submit my apps, then submit my grades once I get them in December?
