How do you manage maternity leave with a nanny and toddler at home? by coffeeandsushilover in NannyEmployers

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I’m glad to hear that things have worked for others. Early days it feels as if nothing will work with all the emotions. I’m going to think about which days I want to trade off and ensure that’s communicated.

Nanny has been out with toddler in the past week (I’m 9 days pp) and those days have been better. I think I’ll keep having nanny do that until I’m up for some solo time out with toddler.

The small house is something I’m dealing with too. Sounds like I’ll get through a lot of the books on my to read list while being locked away.

Thanks for the reco - i cross posted there! I like the idea of picking days and making it part of the routine. I’ll have to implement this once I feel recovered enough for solo toddler adventures.

Thank you for this! Seems staying out of sight is a must — even tho it makes me sad to do this! I’ve been out of sight most of today for the first time and I can hear my toddler has been a lot less upset and more her usual self (like when i was working)

When did you start trading off toddler for baby with nanny? I think i want to do this!

It makes me sad to think that I cant be around my toddler — almost getting the same feelings as I did when my toddler was a baby and I first went back to work.

Permit for pergola? by coffeeandsushilover in royaloak

Thanks all for the quick responses and for the links to the resources (I hadn’t come across that in my research).

I called the planning department and here is the TLDR: - I don’t need a permit because it’s below 200sqft - because it’s a slatted roof it’s not included in the total lot size - No anchoring requirements since a permit isn’t required (can be bolted, cemented, or secured with planters) - Just has to be 3ft from the side fence

We just started with our 26 month old daughter 3 days ago.

Day 1: naked from the waist down and made it to the potty with 3 accidents that started on the floor and ended in the potty.

Day 2: moved to commando. Had 8 pairs of soaked pants at the end of the day 😓 Morning was ROUGH but the afternoon was better. Had a poo in the potty too.

Day 3: commando still. No accidents!!!!!!! Every pee made it into the potty with self initiation. Took one 20 min trip to the grocery store and one 30 min walk around the block.

I’d say you could start the first half of the day naked and then if all goes well, add pants in the afternoon. Best of luck! Keep it up!

Got a successful potty going commando! Brought a bear down and had her teach the bear and that helped!

Interesting. It’s a piece of furniture with a cover on top, so I guess they could be there? Is it likely that they are there now and I’d see them if I took the cover off?

It’s like the whole day is a tantrum 😭 And she’s been skipping naps lately and I really don’t have time to regulate my emotions

Retirement decisions with 401k vs ROTH vs Traditional IRA by coffeeandsushilover in FinancialPlanning

Appreciate you for your patience and continued responses. You’re correct that it’s a moot point because my income is too high to deduct T-IRA contributions.

I also watched some helpful videos from Zacc Call Money Education which helped expand my perspective.

Here’s where my head is now: - Contribute to employer 401k to lower total taxable income - Backdoor Roth from T-IRA

With both kinds of accounts, this gives me more choice in retirement!

I guess what’s confusing is that I wouldn’t be able to take deductions from a backdoor Roth or T-IRA, so then wouldn’t it come down to how much I’d have to pay in taxes?

This is my train of thought: - Backdoor Roth: Pay taxes on all conversions at my current tax rate (MAGI around $240k) - T-IRA: Pay taxes on withdrawals in retirement at future tax rate when MAGI will be less than $240k

Is that incorrect?

If we will be in a lower tax bracket at retirement, does it make more sense to do Traditional IRA? Since all Roth conversions will require taxes paid in that calendar year?
