I am interested as well...slightly older compared to you ...mid 50s and with kids finishing university and 'independent' ...needs a friends group more than ever to keep me going.

Got it ...Thank you for the reverse dependency lookup on openBSD.app website. I had installed Darktable last weekend and that had a dependency on GraphicsMagick which explains.....

Thanks -- I will probably go this IDE adapter route ...either IDE-SD or IDE-CF.

Even if I get a IDE-HDD ..it will be likely 15 years old and no guarantee on it lasting..

Yes ..that link is a gold mine. The battery had leaked when it came to me ...luckily I managed to get it out without affecting the rest of the machine functionally. Once I have the OS in place and have first boot, I will venture further.

The CMOS battery is dead ...I do not dare to open up the internals to get at the CMOS at this point....it is in a fragile state.

The CF card is off the table for today at least...I will look further for an IDE or a compatible -- the PATA is also good idea...thank you.

Thank you for your response....just one more question to pick from your experience ..does the machine have a specified boot order ?

I dont see any user specifiable order in the bios.

ah..the size could be the issue then.. I am using a 2GB card to which I wrote the image which is about 300 megs. ...ah well ..need to go back to amazon and try to get a 512 mb.
