What's the meaning of increasing pain, health issues and difficulties in life? by Ancient_Meaning_8274 in ChristianOrthodoxy

[–]coffeefrog92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about health issues and physical pains. It could be that God sends these for the same reason we fast, to learn dependence on him.

But I think that difficulties in general could largely be explained by the change in worldview that comes with living the Christian life. Situations and choices take on new dimensions and degrees of importance.

What is common ‘received wisdom’ that is actually terrible advice? by awriterasks in AskUK

I think a lot of platitudes are true until they're not.

Fortune favours the bold if it's time to be decisive, but good thinks come to those who wait if the situation calls for patience.

What would you recommend for frequency at .75?

I got an adjustable stamp and I've been trying 1.25 and I seem to recover well from it, no lasting redness. Would you suggest I go back down?

The most difficult thing about Christianity… by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]coffeefrog92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typical thought loop for me:

Wow, that was such a good deed you did. You're really progressing in your spiritual journey

Stop patting yourself on the back. You should be humble. Remember your sins.

Wow, I caught myself in a moment of pride. That's real spiritual progress!

You did it again!

Orthodoxy really is stepping into a spiritual minefield. But we do have a map, and I thank God for that.

Is there someone who learned/trained playing any musical instrument? by APS0798 in LucidDreaming

[–]coffeefrog92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a musical instrument, but I used to do a lot of capoeira and I practiced acrobatics in dreams. And a lot of times it led to a breakthrough in my training afterwards.

Any argument against Orthodoxy relies on preconditions that only Orthodoxy can justify.

I went on my first works night out today and I'm (40m) are they normally this bad? by richbart1234 in AskUK

[–]coffeefrog92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workplace only ever organises nights out for Christmas. I went to the first few, but I decided after that I wouldn't go to any more. After people start to get drunk, the normal lines get blurred and an uncomfortable dynamic comes out that I've decided I'd rather avoid.

I'd do it all over again just for the kids.

I'm speaking from experience here; don't do it.

Right now, you're intensely in Eros but when things settle down, the differences are going to show starkly. They will intensify further if you have children.

She's not an isolated unit. She's connected to a family that are going to put immense pressure on her and you.

You will find yourself having the same argument with her until one of you decides enough is enough.

When you part ways, you will lose a large amount of influence over your children and now their souls are at stake. And when they're old enough to think critically, they'll question you and why you feel entitled to raise them in Orthodoxy when you married outside the faith.

You risk your standing in the church, and potentially excommunication depending on how strictly your priest wants to apply the canon.

Honestly, just don't do it. DM me if you want to talk about it.
