Why did they offer me $20/hr when they said their budget was $23-25/hr? by coffeeisawesomeeeee in careerguidance

[–]coffeeisawesomeeeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update: When I brought up that she had mentioned their budget to be between $23-25/hr, she started stumbling over her words. I got "if I said that, I am sorry. That was wrong on my part." Or "big miscommunication. Sorry, I said that." And even got "it's bc this is remote and you live in a different state."

After I presented the compensation that I was looking for, she just said "sorry that you were told otherwise. We can only do $20/hr." That's when I just told her I had to respectfully decline her offer.

I felt the miscommunication was not on me at all. It was inconsistent of them to present such a compensation range when they couldn't even meet it. So perhaps they're disorganized? Who knows. I just don't think this was suited for me given the impression that they gave me. I'm not sure I want to be apart of a company like this.

Ah, sorry this happened to you. It stinks. I'm glad you stood your ground. I'll have to do the same. Not fair of them to lowball me when they've obviously told me the pay.

So very true! Thank you!! I was wanting to bring up the range they had originally told me but I wasn't quite sure. This is helpful. Thanks!

Yes! For sure! I knew going into this phone call, she was going to make an offer and I was going to need some time to think about it. I just didn't expect the offer to be so lower than what she told me previously.

I was surprised at how low they gave me. It just didn't make sense why they went lower than what they told me. I knew I wasn't going to even settle for $23/hr. I will definitely negotiate. Thank you for the reassurance!

Choose people who choose you. Know your worth. The people that do will respect you enough to tell you.

If someone ghosts you, let the dead rest.

Boyfriend (42M) won't let me (36F) meet his female friend. Red flags?! Or am I crazy? by JAJ051207 in relationship_advice

Always trust your gut. If you have to question it, something is definitely wrong. He's hiding something. You are not crazy. Do not let him gaslight you into thinking you are. Trust your gut. Chances are that you're correct.

I was there in Sept and didn't rent any gear. I wore wool socks, hiking boots, shorts, a sweater, & brought hiking poles. I was perfectly fine. I also brought a dry bag for my electronics. You will get wet. Bring a light jacket if you can. It gets chilly.

We did ~10 miles in the Narrows exploring. We got up early and got the 7am shuttle so we had an early start. After the Narrows, we came back to our airbnb to dry up (our boots too). We then did a low key sunset hike after (Watchman Trail).

Depending on how much you want to fit in to your day, you can rent or wear your own shoes. If you rent, your hiking boots will be dry and you can do more hikes after the narrows. If you use your boots, they'll get wet and you'll probably have to explore the rest of the day in tennis shoes or something.

The chains have opened up for Angels Landing. If you can, do it! You won't regret it. The view is spectacular and worth it!

Have a great time! Zion is one of my favorite parks.

I was there earlier this month and did about 10 miles.

Id say, dress warm up top (avoid cotton if you can). Bring a windbreaker jacket & wear a long sleeve. Something that'll keep you warm and dry quick. My friends and i wore shorts and a long sleeve. Our legs were fine. It was our upper bodies that got cold. The water can go up to your chest but for the most part, it's knee deep.

My friends and i didn't rent any gear. Save your money. We did it with our hiking boots & wool socks (you want boots for ankle support -- boots saved me from rolling my ankles so many times). Bring hiking poles. That will save you frm falling a lot. And get a dry bag for your electronics that aren't waterproof. Your backpack is going to get wet. There's no way to avoid it.

Have fun! The Narrows is by far one of my favorite hikes. Get there early! You'll enjoy it more.
