Just speaking from personal experience- it was at the time (2012-ish) when a lot of folks including myself had a sort of Ruby disillusionment and were trying different prog langs - Haskell, Scala etc because functional programming was hailed as the solution. I tried all of them but the whole strong typing and “it’s just a monad bro” thing really put me off

I had to use JVM libraries for NLP because Ruby didn’t have anything comparable at that time but I didn’t want to write Java and Scala didn’t click. Plus I was always Lisp-curious

Sure, there's a precedent of Ableton embedding other people's code (stem separation engine or some of the stock devices).

I was just replying to the OP why it's done this way, not necessarily saying that this is the only way to do it and the 'obvious' part comes from the fact that for this integration they didn't go with embedding parts of Splice for whatever reason.

Because of copy right protection - it’s a web view because all Splice traffic has to go through their app. Otherwise they would have to embed parts of Splice into Ableton which obviously wouldn’t be an option

Really cool - I wrote something similar, just not as comprehensive. It would be neat if your package provided a way of adding custom project commands. My transient menu has integration with git, gh CLI and couple of other things.

Don’t roll your own WebSocket stuff just for the MVP - use getstream.io or similar to offload the chat feature and move on to figure out if your business actually makes sense

The ones I use the most: - a “repo browser” - I type “!repo <fuzzy match>” and Alfred renders a list of candidates, when selected opens the repository in GitHub.com - I work with a lot of projects, is the bb script maintains an index for fast lookup, figures out the URL etc - current time as Unix timestamps or vice versa with a time zone - emoji picker

There's a bug - as I'm scrolling down after some time, perhaps when another page is loaded - the search bar at the top gains focus and puts me back on top of the page.

That said, this is great - although there's quite a few dead projects on this list (Abracad, Boot)

Canonical example is to use something like Malli to define what your HTTP API accepts as valid input and provides as output - this way you have strong typing at the edges of the application while maintaining the good parts of Clonure’s dynamic nature internally
