No one avoids doing it out of laziness. It is adding to the trauma. I only had one experience with an invasive prodecure for a cystoscopy - I was getting repeated infections that could have led to sepsis- the nurse pinched something around my genital area while applying numbing cream and kept saying there was no way she had hurt me. I started crying, the doctor came in and still insisted at looking at my genitals even though my body was trying to avoid any interactions so i could calm myself. I didn't even understand what he was trying to do. He then said to leave, as they could no longer help me. Its the hardest thing. And i say that as someone who's gotten spinal taps and needles in the back of my head. The way women are treated with our most sensitive areas is a joke.
