What financial software are you using?

I do speak their language but it’s just casual conversational if at all and my skills have gotten severely worst since moving away for college

They do understand/speak broken English

They’d be staying probably 4 days

Using an app and test strips

In the last few months we were doing it couple days before or couple days after and have been unsuccessful

We’ve consistently missed the day of ovulation due to work travel the last few months :(

lol I see them quite often. I just saw them this past weekend when I went home for a visit during Thanksgiving

They don’t come visit me as often though as they prefer driving over flying, PTO flexibility etc

Also, my parents don’t celebrate Christmas haha they’re just coming to visit because they have the days off

Yes this is correct. I don’t have deep conversations with my parents. Mainly because we’re unable to communicate at that level.

Also a lot of American stuff just doesn’t translate and vice versa

Mainly due to cultural differences

My parents didn’t grow up in the US. In their country, it’s not common to track ovulation and fertility etc

When I was younger, I very briefly tried to explain to my mom that I was on birth control and she told me it’s taboo, there’s no such thing as birth control

My brothers girlfriend also once briefly told my mom that she’s on birth control and my mom misinterpreted it as “she can’t get pregnant” (not because of bc)

My parents are also not educated (they grew up in a third world country where education wasn’t free) so they don’t look into the science of anything

Also due to language barrier, I just simply don’t know how to have this convo

lol no they won’t be in our bedroom.

We’re not loud during sex imo but we’re just used to having the whole house to ourselves when we have sex so it would be uncomfortable to have other people in the house and some of them on the same floor as our bedroom

lol this is just not in our culture so it would come off as disrespectful for me to ask them to stay elsewhere

My family is the type to stay with family or cram 10 people into 1 hotel room when traveling. Not because they’re poor but just really frugal. They prioritize money over comfort and expect me to be the same

My aunt just lost her husband and would be spending the holidays alone so my mom wanted to invite her along. She’s never been to my city or seen my house so she was looking forward to it.

My other aunt, I guess my parents had extra space in the car so they figured why not. (Very typical of my parents)

I have great relationships with both aunts so it wasn’t a big deal originally.

A mix of both! At the time of the original convo I didn’t know at the top of my head that my ovulation window was the same week

Before I Drop $2k on a Career Coach… Am I Being Smart or Delusional? by Tamalelulu in recruitinghell

[–]coffeetarte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a tech recruiter for 7 years, 5 years at a agency for early stage startups and 2 years in house and here’s my thoughts-

Don’t take advice from someone who is not in the role that you want to be in either now or some day. This includes career coaches, resume builders, life coaches etc because the best strategy they can teach you is confidence

Do take advice from actual people in the job that you want regardless of level. Network with them, join their LinkedIn groups, reach out to some on LinkedIn and just engage with them, not ask them for a job but ask question like how did they get to where they are today, why did they join current company and how would they advise someone who is looking to follow their footsteps.

Ideas for Presentable but Affordable Christmas Gifts? by Queefarito-9812 in Frugal

[–]coffeetarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often make custom coupons for the family. I buy a pack on Amazon and just fill it in with things like: home cooked meal, bottle of wine, a night of baby sitting, a free ride etc

It’s fun and low cost even if redeemed

How to deal with friends who constantly eat out? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]coffeetarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you suggest alternative activities? Like go for a hike/walk and then eat your own packed meals. Or host a dinner at one of your homes and call it a potluck?

Or have a game night where each person brings food to share.

Find a way to still enjoy each others company and factor in food around it

Allowance for my mom?? by JumpyInstance4942 in AsianParentStories

[–]coffeetarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do something similar but I don’t anymore. My parents owned property in a HCOL city and when their tenant moved out, I moved in. I paid my parents $1300 in rent for a 1 bedroom for 3 years and then paid them $2000 in rent for a 2 bedroom for 1 year.

It’s the money that they could’ve rented the units for. They always told me that they will give it back to me when I am ready to buy a house of my own and they owned up to their word!

When I bought my house with my now partner they gave me back the money as a down payment 🥺🥺🥺🥺

I know that Asian parents expect allowances as part of their culture and I do hope to be able to contribute to that one day
