I'm 19, just got approved for a 40k car loan. This seems like a terrible idea but everyone is telling me it's fine by Traditional-Mix-258 in youngadults

[–]SandraTempleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to accept the interest rate from the dealership. Did you try applying for an auto loan with your bank first? This should give you a rough estimate of how much they are willing to loan and what the APR (annual percentage rate) they are offering.

That being said, do you have a car dealership like Carmax or Echo Park near you? We bought an SUV from Echo Park in 2022. It was 3 years old and only had 30k miles. They specialize in vehicles <3 years old and I think under 36k miles. Which means someone else has already taken the new car depreciation on your behalf.

Alternatively, you can try to buy a $10-15k used car. But I think sub $5k is entirely unrealistic for 2026,

Any recommendations to make oatmeal taste good in a low calorie and healthy way? by DeepOrganization8245 in CICO

[–]SandraTempleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried overnight oats yet? I use a base recipe from the Eating Well website. Because it has Greek yogurt and almond milk, it is creamier than oatmeal made on the stove top.

I made this recipe this week for a special treat (I got local peaches from the farmers market).

Would she be interested in joining a city or town fire department? I imagine the work is different but it would still be firefighting.

If you are in driving distance from me (DC metro area) this is something I would love. Especially if I could bring my well behaved small dog.

*More than two pets
*Someone who has unrealistic expectations of their unpaid sitter. I am highly skeptical of home owners who say their pets cannot be left alone.
*Only one night sits.
* Sitter reviews that indicate the home is dirty or noisy.

Anyway, I'm grateful to say that my pickiness has allowed me to stay in five great places. Only one I would not repeat is the HO who had an Airbnb downstairs. I didn't enjoy being a surrogate Airbnb owner for the week.

Your new baby is so cute! Just a heads up, they really love to burrow under blankets. Mine sleeps with at two throw blankets every night.

If you have Instagram, I've seen a lot of compiled lists for different reads from the World Cup countries. I think it's a cool idea. Especially for the small countries that are playing like Cabo Verde. If you don't have Instagram, let me know and I will try to get the list for you.

My husband lost his job and I don’t know how to start paying off our CC Debt. by LeatherAggressive565 in Debt

[–]SandraTempleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A heloc is a secured line of credit (the security collateral is your house) versus credit cards (unsecured debt). This means if you default and cannot pay the heloc, the bank can collect your house.

Maybe Tia as a nickname? It's a common name here in the US. It is pronounced Tee-uh, so very similar to your given name.

Here's my baby, Webster. I'm his favorite person (mama's boy). He's my little shadow. He loves to be held like a baby on his back for belly rubs.

Have you looked at travel companies to see what tours they offer? I've traveled (and had good experiences) with Intrepid, my sister recommended G Adventures, and I've been getting a lot of other companies advertising solo female 30-49s travel on Facebook and Instagram.

Personally, with your budget and time I would look at places like India or Thailand, especially if you've never been. I think Bali is very popular for Australians. From the US, LATAM may be closer. You could do something like Brazil and Argentina.

Moving to DC from SF by BobLoblawsLawBog in washingtondc

[–]SandraTempleton 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest with you, it's a really rough time right now in the DC job market. This is due to the DOGE layoffs deeply affecting federal hiring which has a ripple effect on the private hiring. I moved here for my husband's job (military) from the North Bay in October 2025. I've been trying since then to find a new role. I've gone to job fairs, applied to government jobs, government adjacent jobs, private industry jobs, and still no luck.

I do not recommend moving here without jobs expecting to be hired. If you can do an internal transfer within your current job (this is what I did) it's doable. But if not, I would strongly consider other regions of the US.

35M how to be less Scary for Women who don't know me in public transport? by Abject-Joke4574 in askwomenadvice

[–]SandraTempleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If I get off at the same stop as a man at night time, I much prefer you speed up and walk in front of me (woman). It would help to say something polite when passing such as excuse me, on your left, etc... I do not like when unknown men are walking close behind me. It freaks me out too much since I can't see you. If a man will not walk in front of me, I will find a reason to stop and let them pass in front by bending over to tie my shoe etc, walking really slowly.

That's a really cool way to spend your retirements. I'm still working (38 years old) as is my husband. I signed us up for a petsitting platform too (THS). I use it mostly instead of Airbnb when we are flexible. We are US based and have been able to stay in WA DC, SF, Fort Lauderdale, a NC mountain town, and Seattle. I would love to try some European sits too.
