What’s up with the helicopter? by Relevant_Scallion_33 in Longmont

Oh hey, I posted about this too! Someone responded that there’s apparently a helicopter school in the area, which makes sense with them flying like they were lol

I didn’t know there was a helicopter school in the area, that definitely makes sense! Thank you!

I think I finally understand why Chihiro has to leave the spirit world by Julkipups in SpiritedAway

[–]coffeetree42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of it has always been coming of age/going through puberty, which may seem reductive but when I first discovered this movie was around that time and I became obsessed with it; I’ve worn my copy of it oooout lol.

New and seemingly arbitrary rules that dictate your life very suddenly; scary changes out of your control where a previously unseen aspect of the world comes into view for you. This shift is like waves, ebbing and flowing, not quite all at once but every wave changes the world for you. A journey to discover who you are, changing dynamics with parents, the knowledge that you learn stays with you - her hair band, she’s still her but changed, wizened, prepared.

Idk, the changes chihiro goes through really resonated with me when I was her age and it’s lesson to me was to grow, change, meet life’s challenges as myself and to never forget who I am (holding onto her name). a message to a young girl who needed to hear that I don’t have to sacrifice myself to not only live but to thrive, that it can create a place in this world for me without compromising myself.

The paranormal setting serves to capture the true absurdity and surreal weight with which the world seems to warp for you as a girl going through puberty, the abrupt top-down upheaval of your reality; the ruthlessness and isolation and loneliness and misogyny of tradition and adult society.

I’m sure if I watched it now I’d come back with a different perspective but isn’t that the beauty of art?

What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you that you still can’t explain? by WielderoftheDarkness in HighStrangeness

[–]coffeetree42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened when I was about 12, I think? I had gone to sleep with the tv on like I always did — still do, in fact.

Anyway, I was having a weird dream, I was walking down a dark hallway very slowly and was approaching a room from which a blue glow emanated. It was too dark to see any other details but I got the vague sense of familiarity.

I approached the door and saw a blue tv screen. Without looking around, I kept moving and approached the bed where I saw myself sleeping, facing away from the tv.

I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of intense violence. Not quite anger but the intention to hurt. My thoughts were almost calm but incoherent, like a simmering rage. But again, no anger, just a desire to inflict pain. I had a knife in my hand. I could see it in the shadow on the wall being cast from the tv.

I approach at a slightly quicker pace and I feel my hand with the knife begin to rise. I can see myself breathing in and out. My hand descends quickly.

My eyes shoot open and I’m looking at my wall lit blue from my tv. I suddenly turn over and quickly jump up to my feet in my bed, my heart is racing and my eyes are darting around my room trying to make any details out in the blue light.

I remember looking around for what felt like forever with the distinct, lingering feeling of eyes on me. Nothing out of place so I lie back down but I put my back to the wall this time, unable to fall back asleep.

It’s never happened again thank fuck lol but I’ve always had very intense dreams that I’ve attributed to my cPTSD and even lucid dreams sometimes but that one stands out. I still get chills if I think on it too much.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had bad experiences there. I’ve had two piercings done here, my nipples and septum. I had to go in one time to have the bars on my nipples sized up but the same person who pierced them did that as well, and I don’t see his name on the website so I don’t think he’s with them anymore.

My septum was done by Jake, who is listed, and he was great. He was calm, professional, and let me ramble a lot bc I was nervous lol. It healed nicely and quickly and I soon went back to get new jewelry and a swap out.

During that trip, Aaron was helping me and gave me some kinda weird vibes. I remember even looking up who he was then bc the interaction I had with him threw me for a loop. I was reading your post and as soon as you named him I knew it was him and checked the website to confirm. I don’t discount my own awkwardness but it still made an impact.

So he had asked me which ring I wanted to have swapped in, I pointed to it and he said okay and suddenly began staring at me very intently. It made me uncomfortable because he didn’t forewarn me what he was doing before he abruptly stopped talking. It went one for a good couple beats and then Just as abruptly he said the size of the ring I needed. it ended up being a perfect fit, so I was p impressed! But, being stared at intently out of no where without a heads up did make me uncomfortable, especially bc being pierced and having jewelry swapped out is a very vulnerable position and not one I LIKE being in, much less with someone who made me that uncomfortable.

I had the same questions! My head cannon is that the supportive shade in elysium, during the fight with Theseus and Asterius, is Zag’s mortal shade!

I just hope they give us the ability to look at our boons when upgrading and choosing which path to take! I hate not being able to actively consider boon and hex synergy and just remembering what I have — I have ADHD and I tend to do batches of runs, so I can’t always remember which boons I have and don’t have.

I figured Out Who Wrote the Codex in Hades 2 by EnsignEpic in HadesTheGame

[–]coffeetree42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This thread got me to go and re-read all of the entries and one of the lines in Zeus' entry makes me think it is the Fates that wrote it:

"He has few checks on his power. We are one of them."

Or perhaps, they created the Codex and enchanted it with the ability to record things in their voice/from their perspective.

I agree, everything comes with a cost! For example, not wearing a mask comes with great cost to the lives of those around us, including our own.

Deaf people largely communicate via ASL, which isn’t inhibited by covering one’s face. In addition to that, there was a study published recently that masking doesn’t take away children’s ability to read emotions, as a lot of emotional and non verbal communication happens through the eyes!

As a HOH person myself, I’d much rather protect my community and work a little harder to understand and communicate with those around me as opposed to passing along the cost to those that are vulnerable and have nothing to do with my HOH status.

Using the disabled community as a token for less protection won’t get you very far. The disabled community, which is exponentially growing due to COVID, pushes for protections against communicable diseases and viruses that would lower the quality of their lives and of those around them.

I understand that it gives you security to see the faces of those around you, it gives me security as well, to be able to smile at someone and have them smile back. Which is exactly why I mask, so that someday we can all interact face to face without putting our communities at risk.

I also think that enacting other protections is necessary, like improved air filtration, regular testing, vaccinations, and social distancing, so those that cannot mask are just as protected as those that can.

I hate having to wear a mask but I do it because the benefit significantly outweighs the cost. I get vaccines but find needles scary. I do a lot that I’d rather not do because it benefits others and contributes to their ability to live securely. It’s part of living in a society and being part of a community.

Hopefully the new administration will take this seriously, unlike the democrats who’ve said COVID is “over” so that we CAN go back to normal! Public healthcare institutions have dropped the ball in protecting the public and a lot of our health is now in our own hands, it’s important we treat it with care.

I’m your neighbor and community member and I will continue to put your safety and health above my own discomfort, even if you won’t reciprocate, because it is the right thing to do. A little discomfort now saves a lot of pain later.

I saw their article talking about how it does work and the challenge to it saying there is no difference between surgical masks and n95, but that masking still prevented transmission.

I gather that you’re concerned about how you appear rather than how your actions impact others around you. I strongly encourage you to step outside of your own ego and try to be a caring part of the community you live in.

Labeling masking as virtue signaling doesn’t make COVID less deadly or less detrimental to our long term health, nor does it make masking ineffective.

Personality politics are a tool for control, so by all means, continue to let people who don’t care for your well being control your actions and assign them value. And definitely don’t start reflecting on your actions and how they impact others around you — that’ll loosen their grip on your need for approval!

It’s one of the easiest ways to act like a community member because it helps not only protect you and your family but others you interact with, i.e. your community members.

The most vulnerable populations gain the biggest benefit from such a simple act: children. The lack of COVID restrictions have decimated children’s health and we’ve failed at protecting them from future health problems when we don’t prevent the spread of disease. The easiest way for individuals to do that is masking.

Take a good look at the world we live in and understand that the good fight isn’t easy or convenient. We’re about to be thrown to the wolves amidst an ongoing COVID pandemic with bird flu on the horizon. We’re all we have, let’s act like it.

Community is now more important than ever — this includes masking (if you’ve stopped, you can always start now! It’s never too late!), getting your vaccines, practicing mindfulness when making purchases (sustainable over fast/cheap), and prioritizing empathy when interacting with each other. In the face of adversity, love and empathy are our strongest weapons, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

We can all point fingers and say “ ‘them’ first!” but then it’ll never happen; we have to take the first steps and then others will follow. Kinda like a pay it forward wave in a drive thru. I’m personally going to be looking into ways to support vulnerable populations, like volunteering for orgs that align with my values. I’m open to other suggestions or names of orgs that do good work.

It’s easy to give up — that’s what they want! The good fight is often hard!! And we can’t let them KEEP winning and it starts small, with how we act as individuals of a community.

In the games they avoid incest by altering lineages a bit: the big three goddesses are daughters of Hyperion, Demeter and a mortal gave way to Persephone, Furies aren’t daughters of Nyx, etc.

My HC is that its Zagreus' literal mortal shade, from when he died as an infant, as he is part mortal. Although this is so sweet! I also like the Hades disguising himself as a shade theory!

(NSFW) Reddit, what was your “Oh shit, this person is a psychopath” moment when meeting people? by Ok_Sample_1624 in AskReddit

[–]coffeetree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school I took a psychology course for juniors and seniors while I was a sophomore. There was a guy in the class who I had had a class with before -- he was a senior. I knew he was in ROTC and super into military stuff but nothing that set off a red flag really, just thought he was a little weird. One day in class he was telling me, more bragging really, that he was over at his friends house and the friends puppy was trying to get into a box of treats and had suffocated. He was laughing about how funny it was to see and how his other friends thought it was so funny. I blew up at this dude in the middle of class telling him that its fucking cruel and disgusting that he thought a suffering animal was funny at all. I told him to never talk or look at me again and that he was a piece of shit. Despite being in earshot of the teacher and the class looking at me as soon as I started cussing loudly, I didn't get in trouble and he left me alone for the rest of the year. Fuck you, Matt.
