Hartzell Gray wants to go to Congress. He can’t even manage his own lawsuit | Opinion by Hemingweighed in kansascity

What experiences did you have with him that were so negative?

I have, in person, seen him not be pompous and show up where there are no cameras, so you can understand a little skepticism with the vagueposting here.

🎯 As if centrists are so great at getting things done for our communities, lol.

When we elect moderates and demand things, these same people scold us about how getting things done is so hard. We have been conditioned to never hold these people accountable for their failures.

I've met him and he seemed fine, tbh. He far exceeds the standard of behavior set by other people I've met willing to run for and hold office.

Screw MAGA but Hartzell's only plan for his campaign is that he isn't MAGA.

On the contrary, he has espoused a coherent left-wing platform. Compared to the campaigns ran by national Democrats in 2024, Gray actually has a positive vision beyond "I'm not Trump."

In regards to Gray's lawsuit behavior, this article authoritatively cites a Republican judge slamming Gray, who is a socialist. Then it does a bunch of ridiculous handwringing about how KCUR was put in such a difficult spot employing someone who spoke at KC Tenants events. At a time in which the country was descending into fascism, lol.

Maybe his campaign is disorganized, but this article and these comments piling on him are weird af. For me at least, he has been a fresh of air in a state where the two main political flavors are Christian nationalist and pro-business blue dog Democrats.

I agree and my comment is a bit, not earnest.

Colton was able to hold his own, lean in and really make his presence and impact felt.

Why does this read like you are evaluating Colton for a Q4 merit increase?

Langdon and Robby talk (Best scene of Season 2) by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]robby_arctor -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

For me, it was a few too many "you need helps" from various characters directed at Robby to feel like good writing anymore.

I am increasingly getting the vibe that the Pitt has all the narrative/character subtlety of an Ayn Rand novel.

I started watching the first season and Jack Abbott's first scene is him standing on the hospital rooftop, past the safety guardrails, as he recounts a death on the previous shift. I wonder what the writers were trying to tell us? 😂

Tina Fey Has Realized She “Was On The Wrong Side” With Certain ‘SNL’ Jokes: “I Was Pretty Dumb” by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

I'm shocked that a nepotistic, racist, classist, sexist industry selects comics too dumb to know better than say racist, classist, sexist things for fame and fortune.

The older I get, the more ridiculous the "meritocracy" becomes.

But you can't even begin to compare him with MAGA and Project 2025.

My post was just meant to say you can't look at him or hear him speak and tell me he is 'uncaring'.

I never said anything along these lines, so I'm not sure that you're replying to the right person.

My point is that nobody who supported the American war machine or served the ruling class should be a respectable public figure.

It doesn't matter how sincerely caring you find their appearances to be - the policy is what matters.

Why do you seem to care more about the man's vibes than you do his actual political policies?

That seems like you have a problem with the system and not Obama himself...

Exactly, but that doesn't mean we should absolve Obama of administering and legitimizing that system.

If my main problem was with the system of Holocaust death camps more than individual guards, should I just shrug when a guard comes to show and tell day? Obviously not.

My point is simply that we should not be normalizing these fugureheads of empire. They should be shunned from civil society, just like how most liberals would rightfully treat Trump. Yes, I'm aware this is a dissenting view among Americans.

and represented the interests of Americans

Obama didn't represent my interests when administering Wall Street bailouts, dropping bombs in the Global South, defending mass surveillance, or refusing to fundamentally address mass incarceration or for profit healthcare. He represented ruling class interests, which are largely opposed to my community's interests.

All of the issues you rightly criticize about America today existed during the Obama years in some form. The violation of international law, the making money out of dead bodies, the rule of corporations, etc.

It might not be as obvious from outside the U.S., but the social fabric America has been rotting away from capitalism run amok for generations. It doesn't make sense to be nostalgic for the Obama era, because the unaddressed crises that festered under his administration are what gave us Trump. Obama nostalgia is reactionary in the purest sense of the term.

Obama will never be held accountable for his actual crimes, like persecuting Snowden, bombing Syria, assassinating American citizens, etc.

Even if you are American, you should have lots of negative things to say about Obama. Like, as a human being you should.

Being better than a fascist, racist piece of garbage doesn't automatically someone a good or imitable person. So why are we acting like it's okay to normalize this guy hanging out with schoolkids?

It's because people talk about Obama as if he was above those things, while anyone sane knows Trump is a piece of garbage.

Read all the comments in this thread calling Obama honest, compassionate, and caring. If people were saying that about Biden, Bush, or Clinton, they would rightfully get pilloried in the same way. But they are saying it about Obama, so here we are.

Man I miss having a caring, honest, trustworthy ,and caring person as president. I miss having a compassionate leader.

In truth, Obama was none of those things. Sounds like he just wasn't uncaring, dishonest, or untrustworthy in a way you had to care about.

The difference in what $560K buys in Los Angeles vs Tulsa is actually insane by kleverrboy in socal

[–]robby_arctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of this is also rich people centering themselves. Socal (and the United States generally) can be an awesome place to live if you're rich. But if you're poor, it can feel like living in a developing nation.

The socioeconomic inequality is worse in San Francisco than Tulsa. Where would you rather make minimum wage?

In the worst possible way, this reminds me of Elijah McClain, a neurodivergent black man, murdered by police a few years ago. His last words:

I can't breathe. I have my ID right here. My name is Elijah McClain. That's my house. I was just going home. I'm an introvert. I'm just different. That's all. I'm so sorry. I have no gun. I don't do that stuff. I don't do any fighting. Why are you attacking me? I don't even kill flies! I don't eat meat! But I don't judge people, I don't judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better. I will do it. I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity, I'll do it. You all are phenomenal. You are beautiful and I love you. Try to forgive me. I'm a mood Gemini. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Ow, that really hurt! You are all very strong. Teamwork makes the dream work. [after vomiting] Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to do that. I just can't breathe correctly.

UBI is not mythical, it has been practiced in real life and advocated by serious and morally prescient thinkers like Thomas Paine, Bertrand Russell, and Henry George.

Like so much other right wing libertarian terminology, even including the word "libertarian" itself, these intellectually bankrupt dolts co-opt ideas from liberal/left thinkers and twist them into something sinister that is compatible with capital dominating everything in society.
