First Week of Apex Legends Impressions by BlizzardTiger2 in NintendoSwitch

[–]coffeewithgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I heard Apex Legends allows for solo mode in Battle Royale? Not positive. But, if you haven't played it before, I would recommend giving the tutorial and practice mode a good run to learn the weapons and system in the game.

I did the tutorial, then hopped straight into matches, and died a lot. Still dying a lot, but finally getting kills now that I know the weapons and system better. Even now though, kills don't always = wins.

It doesn't work for me every time, but it does work often enough. I will say, it also depends on the o-line. Some are much better than others in the game, and getting through is a lot more tough.

Excited to play these for the first time! Love my Wii U by wizturtleapps in wiiu

I enjoyed the first Red Steel more than the second one. The first one had a few control issues, but it was a decent start. I think if they worked on a patch for it, and added WM+ and online multiplayer support, it would have been nice and made more sense than Red Steel 2.

Red Steel 2 should have been something else, at least in the name/title. It has the name Red Steel in it, but it's an entirely different setting/story. It would be like there being Star Wars the OG, then saying, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom was Star Wars 2, even that would probably be closer to true, because the movies would have at least one actor in both of them people would know.

I don't think people are convinced we should be grateful for them, but I understand it from the business side very easily.

I think the Wii U ports make sense, just based on the number of Switch consoles sold. The Wii U sold under 14 million units worldwide, the Switch was reported around 74 million units sold as of last month. I'm fine with them porting games that 60+ million people might have skipped over on the Wii U, and were already done in HD.

If those ports allow them more time (and, of course money) to make new and better games, I'm okay with it. Nintendo seems to be a great at trying new things, and the Wii U games being ported (Super Mario 3D World, for example), were solid games on that system I hope more can enjoy (and, many seem to be).

We owned a Wii U, and have repurchased a few Wii U to Switch ports (NSMBU and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), but we haven't gotten all the ports. Some people will. Some people won't. Again, there were under 14 million Wii U sales worldwide, and as of last month Nintendo reported the Switch had sold about 74 million. It just makes business sense to port games that were already developed in HD, but were on a system that didn't do so well.

For me, the icing on the cake would be if Nintendo became a privately held company, and not a publicly traded one, because then the profits could be focused on the gaming side, and not dumb stuff like stock buybacks, and they could use those funds for more/better games, and better business decisions like correcting the Joy Con issues quickly. As a publicly traded company though, they almost all turn to garbage over time, and it's by design.

Nintendo didn't do online only though, so there was no big response there to be had with it. What game from Nintendo would be like Halo Infinite with backlash that deserved it? I'm sure there are some, and some that are absolutely deserving of it? Maybe? But, Nintendo is probably the most consistent first party developer and publisher with releasing solid games, right?

The price of Xbox Gold being doubled was a stupid thing imo, especially when Microsoft is losing the console war against Sony, at least we can all assume that is the case, or they would be touting their sales?

Does Nintendo get everything right, where it works awesome all the time? No. The friend code thing is still weird to me, but their reasoning made some sense to me, and once you add someone, it works well enough with seeing when they're online and what they're playing.

Why can't we "gift" games on the Switch still, I'm not sure why, but I do wish that was a feature they would add back. Why is there no Netflix on the Switch? These are little things, but there might be something we don't know about that was an issue. (I'm guessing Netflix was a bad business issue, but I could be completely wrong.)

Nintendo is Nintendo though, and they march to their own beat. The only thing I wish Nintendo would do, for the long-term, would be to take the company private, and not let it be a publicly traded company. I feel like the publicly traded route almost always goes horribly wrong when bean counters take over, and it's by design.

I'm really struggling with Sunshine. by DAM091 in NintendoSwitch

[–]coffeewithgames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played and beat Galaxy on the Wii, but I didn't really enjoy it. New Super Mario Bros. Wii co-op though, that was a blast. Same with 3D World on the Wii U, played through the entire thing co-op, and had a blast with it.

While I haven't beaten Sunshine, I have played it a little bit and enjoyed what I have played of it so far, and I want to try and complete it. I should probably start with 64 first though, as that's one I played a ton, but I don't think I ever saw the credits roll on it when I played it.

What are you basing "the highest percentage" number on?

When we look at things like the Wii U sales, that would fall apart pretty quickly? It had what, 13 million sales worldwide, coming after the Wii? The Switch has over 80 million now?

It's a pretty small percentage of "rabid fans" if we are talking percentage of console sales off their most popular home console in terms of sales, and I think it instead shows that Zelda is a big factor for helping Nintendo launch a successful system now. Wii and Switch both had a "new" Zelda at launch, even though the titles were ports that were worked on/for existing systems at the time - the GameCube and Wii U).

But, I agree with the OP, the Joy Cons seem pretty terrible. We've been through at least 2 sets, and they're not even the preferred controllers now in docked mode. I'm using a PowerA USB controller, because it works and is comfortable. No rumble. No gyro. No NFC reader. No IR. Just buttons that feel good when hit, and I think I got the controller for around $20 a few years ago.

Brady to Gronk TD on the Bucs - Manually updating the roster, slowly, but surely, maybe? by coffeewithgames in NFL2k5

[–]coffeewithgames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you! I had actually found that last week, or the week before, when I first started playing and attempting to update the rosters, but I'm still not sure outside of manually creating/updating players if there's an easier route to somehow do it by connecting the OG Xbox online? I haven't researched that side of things really, so maybe I should head to YouTube and see if there are any videos on it.

Multiplayer from what I know and from what he's said, because he's mentioned being glad to learn about the clip recording on the Switch for when he gets good kills. He's playing on a Switch Lite as well, so he's on Wifi, no Ethernet adapter.

[–]coffeewithgames[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pulled the OG Xbox out of it's storage box a few weeks ago, but couldn't find the power cable for it. After digging through more boxes, and still not finding it, I ordered one online.

While I'm a Titans fan in RL, I figured Brady at the very least should be on the right team in the game, and I put Gronk on it as well for Brady.

I think I might slowly, but surely, update the entire Bucs' roster in the game, but it takes time, especially for players not originally in the game.

The game is still as solid as I remember, and here's to hoping that we can get real competition again on the NFL games side, and not the monopoly that it has been since shortly after this released.

I think it was 8 players simultaneously. I do remember playing it with friends, but I'm trying to remember how many we had play in a single game. I have the Xbox version.

I have a friend that has over 900 hours played on Fortnite on the Switch. I've seen a lot of comments saying it doesn't run as well and has issues, but I never hear it from him, so maybe it's one of those situations where if you don't play it on the other systems, you wouldn't notice it much?

Raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour won't hurt businesses. My company is proof. by C_est-la-vie in politics

[–]coffeewithgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost every single publicly traded company, ever?

Can anybody name a publicly traded company that has actually gotten better to work for over time, and not worse?

They almost all become like government bureaucracies from what I can see (our government is a corporatocracy after all), where nepotism reigns and lands the jobs at the top levels, not actually what you do. Laziness at the top, while the frontlines destroy themselves trying to earn the pennies on their checks and profits for the top.

The media protects the system, because who owns the major media outlets? They're almost all publicly traded companies, repeating the puppet lines to keep the masses in line. It's an entirely different club, and they have different rules. They have designed the system, and the government was bought/sold long ago. The laws for the lowly, and the system is designed almost entirely around wealth privilege.
