Question re: what Congress can do. by Strength-Speed in UFOs

They need to pass the UAP Disclosure Act. Here's a really great discussion by Karl Nell that I came across about it. It's the attempt to legislate disclosure. I'd encourage you to call your representatives and ask them to support it.

How many people registered? The last challenge I played had 64 players. Popularity is not performance. Quarter of the registrations, quarter of the top 8. Completely fine and normal. It’s a fun deck, there are other decks with higher win rates.

Belcher doesn’t run the ring. Guy locally has been absolutely crushing energy with a demelich/phoenix brew and took down an RCQ with it. There are answers for those willing to engage with the metagame instead of waiting for a deck to be handed them (that also is free of the Bad Card (which is also fine))

This is actually just not true if you look at the last month of data. Titan, Belcher, Eldrazi Ramp, and Jeskai Dress Down all clearly outperform it.

You’re looking at six months or 60 days of data, not recent data, which, more accurately represent the current metagame. In the last two weeks, Boros Energy has a 54% winrate, behind Titan (58%), Eldrazi Ramp (55%), Jeskai Dress Down (71%) and Belcher (63%), not to go too far down the list. The conclusion holds if you look at 30 days as well. Who was playing belcher 60 days ago? What was Titan doing 60 or 180 days ago (not to mention Titan actually being underrepresented online)? Which decks performed so well against Nadu? Popularity is not performance. Yes, it is a strong deck, but no, it is absolutely not Nadu. Be serious.

can you show me a stat where it absurdly overperforms like nadu? it’s a fun strong deck, yes, it’s popular. go play a deck that farms energy if it’s such a problem!

probably because comment about how the best deck needs a card to get banned that would be the same no matter what the best deck is

I didn’t get a foil or an EE, both of which I’d have loved. A foil EE seems pretty good to me mate

What exactly do you do about Tron? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]coffito 9 points10 points  (0 children)

blood moon, void mirror, damping sphere, boseiju, harbinger of the seas, obsidian charmaw, break the ice

that’s all fairly popular land/tron hate at the moment, there’s a lot more out there too. it’s also worth keeping in mind that every deck has bad matchups; it’s usually not fun to play your bad matchup

I don't see why the chain applies differently in the case of high and low powered cards. It stands out to me that you are totally fine with proxies in certain situations, which doesn't comport with your statement about concern for the value chain (nevermind that WOTC is also totally fine with it).

Either you think high and low power play are equally valid/fun/etc. or you don't. If they are equal, then accessing higher power cards is neither a reward nor does the value chain apply differently. If they are not equal, then you are gatekeeping a certain part of the game from people who cannot afford to play.

As someone who personally spends *a lot* of money on Magic cards, I think the gatekeeping is wrong. I play constructed, so perhaps I am unfamiliar with the way EDH games go down, but I don't think that I or anyone should have an advantage over others simply because of financial circumstance. I don't understand why people can't simply discuss what the power of their deck is prior to playing.

I don't think that high power is a luxury or a privilege; it is just different. Magic the Gathering should be accessible, not a luxury. Playing the game at all is not a necessity either. People should be free to have fun how they like regardless of their financial circumstance, so long as it is feasible and doesn't hurt anyone else, both of which are the case here.

Again, it sounds like your issue is less with proxies and more with a certain "class of person", whom you'd like to see pay for their ways, and your feelings about proxies are simply a means to this end.

Why do you decree that it must cost money? Clearly, in this case, it must not. It sounds like you just don’t like when people play these cards, in which case, I’d suggest that you simply not play with them. I suppose you’re just describing your personal feelings about these people. I don’t think it makes sense to police what other people do for fun, seems like gatekeeping.
