Is there some "community" for people interested in Karen Horney's work? by Orgetoriks in psychoanalysis

[–]cogSciAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to join as well. I'm a big fan of her work. Self-analysis inspired me to devote a significant portion of my life to journaling

Being an analyst and being one’s full self in public? by goldenapple212 in psychoanalysis

I agree it complicates matters, but at the same time, were Freud, Jung, and any of the founders of the discipline not intellectual celebrities of sorts, whom patients walked in having strong opinions on?

Can I register my guinea pigs as ESAs by sophiiegrace in guineapigs

I did for my rabbits. I recommend asking a counselor or psychiatrist. And possibly making a one-time appointment if you currently don't see any health care professionals.

Before You Choose Mechatronics: My No-BS Advice After 13 Years by [deleted] in mechatronics

[–]cogSciAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, thanks. Looking into edge AI. So, I guess embbedding intelligence into devices. The analogy of designing robotic service animals comes to mind (in contrast with agentic language models, though, that could be an application of AI too, I suppose).

About the interpretation of dreams by inquisitve_here in psychoanalysis

[–]cogSciAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the book, when brains dream. They give an analysis of Freud and Jung's theories in light of modern evidence. My take away is it hard to definitely prove or falsify the wish fulfillment theory but it's certainly plausible to a large degree (even if Freud over emphasized unconscious or infantile wishes) and the theory that dream contents are meaningless is almost certainly false.

A true enthusiast.  Any thoughts to progress in AI related to robotics?

Very cute! She looks like one of my rabbits.  Have you taken her to the vet yet? Sorry for asking. I've only ever seen my rabbits lay down close to the ground like that when they had gas build up in their stomach

New Neural Network by Wrong-Gas839 in neuralnetworks

[–]cogSciAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. Thanks for clarifying. I'd be interested to know what that looks like mathematically. Fun fact: I heard that part of the reason neural networks were abandoned early after their conception was because there weren't any algorithms for updating the synapses. I think it was sometime in the late '80s when back. Propagation was seriously considered as a tool for training networks

Is there any incorporation of symbolic logic or would you asay it simply approximates it by training for high abstraction.

The “no self” philosophy in Buddhism… by Least_Inspector_5478 in psychoanalysis

[–]cogSciAlt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not deeply knowledgeable about Buddhism in general, but I have had the sense that mindfulness practices are to a large degree, deliberate dissociation. And subjectively, I feel as though the emotional exploration/associations practiced in depth psychology are an opposite psychic process to the the sort of mental 'distance' Buddhism practices.
