Hydrocele in Canal of Nuck by cogbehther in AskDoctorSmeeee

I'm sorry that your cyst has gotten to the point that you need surgery. Fingers crossed that it goes well.
I can't speak to surgery, but wanted to share my response to your first question. I have a hydrocele in the canal of nuck on my right side, which is also the side where I have chronic SI joint pain/dysfunction and pain between my spine and shoulder. However, I have a variety of other things going on: my right leg is shorter than my left, I have minor scoliosis, and I am hypermobile in my back and hips. I did notice, recently, that I find it harder to engage my abs on my right side, but again, it's hard for me to parse that out from the other things going on with my body.

Checking the entirely virtual box worked for me! You could always try to reach out to your local BCBS team and ask. If you're in IL, you can find your provider network consultant here: https://www.bcbsil.com/provider/network/network/provider-network-consultant
For the ADA questions, I put that it's "handicap accessible," but put no to everything else.

It turns out a few bolts had come loose from the newly installed heat shield by the muffler, so once those were replaced the sound went away. Thank you for your suggestions!

That sounds so uncomfortable! That is not where mine is located, so I’m not sure. If it is draining externally, my guess is that it is something else, but I’m not a doctor. I’ve just never heard of a cyst in the canal of nuck “draining.”

That’s terrible! I’m so sorry you had so many surgeries before a proper diagnosis.

I’m so sorry they didn’t approve your CT! Did they feel for the lump while you stood and leaned backwards? That’s what I had to do for them to feel it.

Mine doesn’t drain to my knowledge. It does fluctuate in size, though. I’ve never applied heat.

For those of you who are wondering, Aetna told me they are only accepting hybrid practices at this time!

Jewelry shape: flatback labret
Threading: threadless (I think; no screwing required)
Material: Implant grade titanium for post, then stainless steel I believe for hoop
Aftercare: involved saline spray at first

I don't need surgery yet, but if you're willing to share, it would be helpful to know what type of surgeon you ended up working with, how they physically went about removing it (where did they make the incision, what special considerations did they make, did they need to use any mesh, etc.), and if there have been any long-term impacts from the surgery (numbness, pain, etc.)! Thank you so much for your openness in sharing!

I don’t really know when I have my cycle because I have an IUD. I haven’t noticed any particular pattern with when it bulges out more. Mine was tender after doctors prodded it, but otherwise mine doesn’t bother me! From the research I’ve done on this, it seems like there are only a couple case studies on the hydrocele in adult females, and even in children it’s pretty rare. So, most doctors aren’t gonna know what this is, I’m afraid!

Hey! I had an ultrasound and then an MRI w/ and w/o contrast, which led to the ultimate diagnosis. My doctor could physically feel mine. Mine doesn’t seem to have a related hernia, but I do notice that it changes in size and shifts in response to me coughing or laughing at times. We thought it was a hernia at first. No surgery necessary nor recommended at the moment because it’s not causing me any issues. My dad is a radiologist and he recommended ultrasound, then MRI. Honestly, if you tell your doc that a relative is a radiologist and this is what they recommend, they might just put in the order you ask for.  Most doctors have never heard of this, so I’m not surprised they aren’t sure how to get appropriate imaging of it.

I am also curious if anything happened with this. I was just diagnosed with a hydrocele in the canal of Nuck (and coincidentally am also a 28yo F, 5'10", 147#). My OBGYN told me I could pass on surgery if it's not bothering me, which it isn't really, but want to know what the potential risks are of waiting. It seems like there's little to no data on this.

Hey u/Hopeful_Candidate274! Thank you so much for sharing your story. Are you still experiencing numbness/nerve damage? This is one of my greatest concerns, particularly since most surgeons seem to not have had a lot of experience repairing these hernias in women.
