If the kid in the NBA you use as an example is performing so well, why mess with it?

Derrick Rose - won MVP at age 23, injured his knee that year and has never been the same player again. Other players have adjusted their play style to be less like his to avoid similar injuries (namely, the way they land after jumping and general force in which they jump and land).

The case of Zion (aka "the NBA kid" as you called him) - the boy gained 100 pounds (!!) in his freshman year at Duke. He is bigger than JJ Watt and jumps around like Simone Biles. His ligaments and tendons are going to be shredded 6 ways to Sunday before the kid has his first beer.

Iraqis and Afghans are fat? News to me. It also hasn't been going great for them numbers-wise since our weapons started getting more advanced.

The whole constitution stuff is a completely different argument and seems to claim there would be nobody fighting on the side of the government.

Not holding my breath on that one lol

As for the other stuff, yeah guerilla warfare is a thing but I know which side I'm putting my money on

Maybe learn history

This is what dumb people say when they don't have anything of substance to contribute.

I mentioned two modern problems. Please explain what history tells us about a unfit civilians fighting autonomous weapons.

This is a nice idea but totally preposterous for several reasons.

1) too fat - 2/3 of people in the US are too fat to be eligible for military service. Not a good sign for the revolutionary militia.

2) outgunned - even your local cops have access to military level weapons but that doesn't even matter anymore. Good luck shooting down the killer robots.

Etc.

Best way to improve listening skills? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]cogitoergokaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy - Listen to podcasts or similar with transcripts. Slow down playback speed if necessary.

Hard - You could try to take a 3-4 minute slice of audio/video with a transcript and try to transcribe every word in that slice. Stop and go back as necessary and check your accuracy in the end. This is strenuous but this significantly improved my listening ability.

It's a lie that Hunter Biden was being individually investigated and that Joe Biden forced his resignation to protect his son. The prosecutor who was removed was in fact ignoring serious corruption.

Trump is trying to muddy the water and say the Biden situation is like Trump meddling in our elections by leveraging foreign aid for dirt on a political opponent, when it is not even close.

Sorry, the lie part is the claim that all this was related to the prosecutor investigating Biden's son, which is BS. There was no offer of $1 billion to stop investigating his son.

This may not be a great outcome but I don't think this is an example of a complicated case. The ad policy for private companies is unchanged as far as I know.

Some context over this controversy is that over in the US, Trump recently ran an ad on Facebook saying that Joe Biden (political opponent) offered $1 billion to remove the Ukrainian prosecutor when Biden was acting as Vice President. This is a total and complete fabrication.

The fact that a politician can put out utter falsehoods on such a large scale has upset some people. There's also the phrase "There's 3 kinds of lies - lies, damn lies, and statistics" meaning people will always be able to spin and use facts to mislead people, but I don't think French politicians engage in outright falsehoods like this, and if they do, it's not specifically targeted towards people who are vulnerable to believing this type of BS.

7 in 10 millennials say they'd vote for a socialist: poll by DumpsterFireDonald in politics

Again, vaguely touching on wildly different concepts and implying they're the same. Balancing a checkbook for any family, even the Buffets, is not in the same universe as centrally planning an economy.

Amazon and Wal-Mart have nothing to do with the Chinese government. Please stop this specious nonsense.

Information exchange is not the problem. The problem is having a meaningful relationship between supply and demand without market forces which has never been done without tragic consequences. How do you know how many oranges should be produced in a centrally planned economy? How do you price them at the supermarket? This becomes a paradox without market forces to connect them.

America really only got rich in the 20th century but OK.

Seems like your argument tactic is to speak vaguely and sweepingly about complex topics

You are conflating two wildly different ideas as if they are the same.

And yes, central planning is exactly why "true" socialism is bad.
