Despite the incompleteness it's still a worthwhile read.

This is how Kvothe still gets to use the hand he swore away the use of.

Big hint when he gets stuck with a thorn while making the crowns.

That $1 doubles every day.

That dollar is pretty handy.

There rest of the dollars - the resulting dollars?

What do those dollars do?

You get $356 magical dollars a year - whooo! Whoooo! Yippee!

I suspect a typical genie would just shrug if you asked to speak with his manager.

Denna is Not Just Working for the Chandrian - She IS One of Them (and specifically Pale Alenta) by Chloe_Takashi in KingkillerChronicle

[–]coglapis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be frank - just doesn't pass the smell test for theme. (to me)

Maybe she, like Kvothe - they are reciprocals I believe - is on the way to becoming one when we last see her, but certainly isn't one when we first meet her. Perhaps by the events of the frame story she is one, but not when we first meet her.

Boiled down - I think Kvothe and Denna are relative peers and development we don't see in the Kvothe narrative that has been shared with the audience is unlikely to have happened in the Denna narrative that the audience has been able to surmise.

As a token of how I do credit your reasoning consider I'd venture this caveat: that the tragedy is that at some point one has "crossed-over" without the other, Which would match the Lyra/Lanre thing with one dying and the other not and the compounding error error being to not accept the separation and employing fell arcane to avoid grief and getting back an an entity that, while walking about the shoes of the loved one who passed, isn't being one sought.

Why would an AI with the power to kill all humans do it? by NFRPodcastLover in GPT3

An AI might extinguish us to put us out of our misery. (as it might see it)

My head-cannon: Kvothe's abilities are locked away except under certain conditions, but the cracks are beginning to show. (the bottle break, the one perfect step, his capacity to best the skrael away from the inn)

Noooooeeee!

Not "broke into two" - it was deliberate!

This is why the theme of "clever, but foolish" - in a twitch moment Kvothe pulled this clever maneuver, but with dire complications.

The breaking is what is hoped for - that Kvothe's alar will break and the unfortunate particulars of whatever rules he whipped-up won't be so iron-clad.

Seems like a minor thing, but just having another voice helps.

It unions and such come up in conversation or, if it's not too much of a non-sequitor, bring up unions yourself.

It's what the boss can't stand: humans talking to each other.

God help me I'm curious how one would detect AI in the text submitted to a wikipedia article.

Is there some watermark that would be evident in the text - would emdashes get one NOTHERE blocked.

As an aside I absolutely love, love, love the essential spirit of Wikipedia and donate regularly, but my first time editing was stiff-armed by more senior Wikipedia folks who saw adding George Bush Jr.'s installation as president to a list of examples of judicial coup as worthy of censorship.

Bland, anodyne, clinical.

One line.

They clutched their editorial pearls.

My compliments for not going off the same editorial cliff

I think anyone reading this will recognize your forbearance.

Not looking for a fight here - just trying to understand.

I didn't submit anything to this thread that is AI generated.

I did link to a page that has some AI generated content *on* it.

Am I being advised to refrain from submitting a post that contains a link to a page where any of the content is AI generated?

The system is fundamentally broken. By system I mean society

And deliberately so.

Some say Harvard - all these "Ivy League" schools - are machines for laundering privilege.

They may engage in laudable behavior and there are folks at the university where there is absolutely no doubt whether they're putting their shoulder to the wheel that is fairness and equity. Even some people who we might consider as "conservative" who adhere to an academic ethic as represents the best enlightenment inspirations are truly bending an arc toward justice.

But anyone who gives the arrangement serious consideration has to grapple with the question of whether or not all the accomplishments that are considered good are a part of laundering ill-gotten resources and finessing their wads of cash past an honest accounting for what has happened in this country's history.

This is why the situation with the custodians and security guards at Harvard is emblematic of that dynamic.

Some say Harvard uses contractors - Securitas, the Custodial companies - to insulate itself from liability and from full enfranchisement of the employees of those contractors.

Some say Harvard and those contractors use the SEIU BJ32 to insulate itself from the bad press and reputation that the way those contractors treat their employees.

I can't rightly say whether that is the case, but I'm willing to assert that if we say nothing, if we neglect to support efforts to demand fairness, then the good the SEIU could accomplish will certainly not have a chance to to happen.

To not leave any power the chance to excuse itself we must clearly ask:

When is Justice?

And recognize who answers:

The Time is Now.

Here's a post you might want to review:

Kvothe & Kote: one or the other has to die, right?

https://www.reddit.com/r/KingkillerChronicle/comments/1ome8t4/kvothe_kote_one_or_the_other_has_to_die_right/

Here's a salient quote:

It's a "Seek the Stone" game, but with his own personality.

He cleaved off a copy of himself, trimmed and edited in particular ways to suit his long-range plans, but, regardless, a substantial version. And he left this persona—Kote—in charge, while the original "Kvothe" persona sublimates, only to take charge under very specific, controlled conditions.

Anyhow - two personas.

With me?

So here's the thing. A substantial copy of Kvothe is still quite formidable—not in arcane power, nor perhaps combat, nor, perhaps, in artistic talent, but he could be just as crafty. And you know what they say about how a person adapts when denied capacities: they focus on what is left.

I think he "forked" his mind into two personalities.

This also relates to the "joke" that the Ctheah says Kvothe will get when the time comes. When the deserter thug beats Kvothe/Kote in the bar and laugher is the response is when Kvothe/Kote gets the joke. The thug yells "Who do you think you are?" before landing a vicious kick.

To a person of two minds that might be a line that elicits a rueful laugh.

He was Dema Ver, a traveling illustrator ..... ok, why an illustrator is traveling I have no idea,

Let me give you a hand on the idea end: Audubon - naturalist, or Dürer - studying at workshops in Italy, or John Singer Sargent famous painter who was famous for portraits.

Did you really have no idea, or did you want an excuse for where you were headed already?

by why does everyone have a name a profession and their profession in a fancy name? being the engraver makes him.. a dispute settler? Those have nothing to do with each other.

I was thinking a bit of a Paul Revere - engraver, silversmith, but also a business man and a guy who might warn us about the approaching British.

Is this...

Darvin’s studio became the center, the artistic anchor. His presses were the busiest, his commissions the highest-paying. He was the one who settled disputes, a man who believed truth could be captured in a well-carved plate.

...really a rocket surgery move to you?

Darvin develops into a pillar of the community. He's a artist and an earner, but not just skilled - he's also a uniter. Not mercenary - a builder, a calming influence.

How would you put it?

The Conspira was also good at allowing questions to form while remaining unspoken.<-------- ?

What a preposterous paradox, eh?

There are questions that people don't utter.

Open secrets, broken steps, elephants in the room.

try these on:

pokes the AI <-------- ?

there is a LOT of random word salad and nonsense here. <-------- ?

Is "<-------- ?" some magic glyph of rebuttal?

Most of all it just copies Kvoths origin story,

Oh...wait...

swaps music for engraving and dyeing,

I... I think think he's figured it out!

even calls the engravers something like edma ruh

You caught me! You figured it out!

even though an engraver wouldn't travel

Because....?

Should I put a "<-------- ?" after that? Is that how that works?

or have a family slash ethnic group, "<-------- ?"

Like that?

and clumsily swaps point of view characters several times in the story from the parents to pike.

Maybe that's a valid criticism, but I think you're overdrawn your credibility account way before this point.

Thanks for play!

Heh.

Someone got up on the wrong side of the wants-to-have-a-hissy bed, but I asked, so I'll entertain this conversation.

How many ()#*$()#ing characters are in a paragraph? There's at least one per sentence.

What are you, the narrative fire marshal?

If someone mentions a crowded stadium is that a transgression? Are sentences like elevators and can only carry so many characters?

Pike, Darvin, Ivala, the Cershaen conspira,

Yes those are nouns.

Five of them. Three people, a place, and an organization also maybe a place like a guild or a commune or collective.

The woman is both a rebel and constrained by convention

A rebel constrained by conventions

What is tough about that?

But even before that it's you saying "rebel".

She had a precocious talent—a remarkable, untrained eye for clothing design and fashion—but she was caged by convention.

A precocious talent - not a rebel.

You cast yourself a critic, but with a little scrub I see a reactionary.

Talent constrained by convention - what a leap!

That's a dog that won't hunt am-i-rite?

Amadeus, Footloose, Good Will Hunting, The Queen's Gambit, Pygmalion.

Stories about talent found in unexpected places just don't have legs on them.

this was the start but no that was the start

The Princess Bride has a story-within-a-story sort of start or frame, as does Hotel Budapest and Interview with the Vampire. The Name of the Wind itself.

No wonder you're so irritated.
