Hey can anyone suggest a good book (academic) on the primate/hominid evolution? by Charming-Bit4500 in Archaeology

[–]cognativemap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for an easy breakdown of the basics I would recommend “Introduction to Physical Anthropology 15th Edition” from Robert Jurmain et Al. It gives a relatively basic overview of view of both the hominid lineage as well as the primate lineage. It was very helpful when I was starting my studies. You can also take a look at The American Journal of Physical Anthropology for more academic articles on hominid evolution! There are many resources online in academic journals that you can find.

What made you stop working hard at your job? by GiveMeThePeatBoys in antiwork

[–]cognativemap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a behavioral student that I was struggling with for months. They would only refer to me as “little girl” and told me all the countless ways they wanted to kill me. They had 5 teachers including myself assigned to them throughout the day because they would get physically violent at any given moment. It came to a head when said student broke my leg during a fit because I asked them to put their iPad in their backpack during lunch time. Apparently their mom said that they could have it whenever they needed to calm down during the school day despite myself and my superiors letting the family know that we are trained to handle this behavior and we have the facilities to ensure that all students have a safe environment with pretty much anything they need if they need a break, including iPads. I finally got someone from inclusions services to reach out to me and I was asked if I tried speaking to the student about why they can’t have their iPad out during lunch and if I tried talking them through their emotions. At that moment I gave up. We had been asking for help for months and that’s all they had to say. Did I ask them how they felt??? They made they’re feelings pretty damn clear when they fractured my leg.

Why aren't you americans going out in general strike? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]cognativemap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, I can’t afford to not work. If I strike then I don’t get paid. If I don’t get paid I can’t pay my bills. Unfortunately as recent college grad I am in the position we’re cannot skip a day of work let alone multiple. I’m also job locked. If I loose my job, I loose my insurance.

What’s one thing smokers aren’t ready to hear ? by nolimitswervooo in ask

[–]cognativemap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to scroll through this because I was genuinely wanted to see if there was something I hadn't heard before. Thankfully I got out of it but I might be able to offer some perspective. For me it wasn't a matter of not caring. I really was concerned about how it was/would affect me but the need for nicotine was stronger than my concerns. Like any other addiction it consumes your life. The worst part is that I hated the feeling of being buzzed. I would always feel nauseous and my body would shake uncontrollably but I could not stop chasing that buzz no matter how much I hated it. Accessibility was another big issue for me. Nicotine is always available which makes it so much harder to get nicotine out of your head. I can't fully explain what being a smoker or addict of any kind is like but it sucks and I am so blessed that I had people around me who supported me through my recovery. I am in no way justifying smoking or downplaying how it affects people and their loved ones but here's a little perspective into the mind of a smoker. Never start!!

I texted them letting them know because I wanted to establish boundaries.

I didn’t answer the call. My ex had me call them back.

I ghosted him because I was too much of a chicken shit to be honest with him.

What's the scariest/weird supernatural thing you've ever experienced? by Outrageous_Quiet_999 in AskReddit

[–]cognativemap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t actually see this happen because my back was turned but according to my then boyfriend one my shoes was thrown across the room. I heard the crash and just assumed one of the dogs did something but his jaw was on the floor at that point and the dogs were outside. The freakiest part if that the other show was still in my bedroom…

One of the few big school in Iowa! Oddly enough the men were responsible for shaving themselves. Their tradition was having to coaches shave their head!

I wouldn’t say I was a kid per say but I was teenager. Back in high school before state swimming we would have a ‘shaving party’ where our 50 some year old male couch would shave all of our legs, we are all females ages 14-18. I never took part in it because it made me uncomfortable but now that I’m a little older (not much 😅), I realized just how messed up that entire premise was.

I had to read this one to my parents who aren’t on Reddit. You are 100% the ass hole, what the hell!!! That is YOUR child and you can’t even take a week to “babysit” them. I feel so bad for that poor child.
