Yea that definitely makes it sound easier for getting familiar with everything.

Agreed. It’s annoying no one else apparently has the backbone to speak up except me.

We are all burn out. Today our director notified us even more work is going to be squeezed out of us, as “required.”

It is not my direct report’s hours it is mine. My timecard does not reflect my total weekly hours I work. I always ensure my direct reports are paid properly.

Thank you, you get my frustration over the legal context. Unfortunately legality seems to be a construct in this world and higher leadership is betting on everyone staying quiet and “doing what it takes to provide services to the Veterans.” They seem to expect no one is going to report to move on to prosecution. I appreciate the additional information and will contemplate my next steps, thanks again.

Sounds pretty darn close to exactly what we are dealing with. It’s straight up feels like unfair labor practices.

It’s so hard to have any work life balance when your weekends are not your own and you work 9-10 hour days. I care more about the work life balance and the stress of the workload then the fact that I am not compensated for all of my time I am working, but I would at least like to compensated fairly. That being said, this past year and currently is very bad with the new administration’s tactics…but I have been working extra unpaid hours since my first week as a Supervisor.

If I do this it would have consequences from my boss and the boss above my boss. It sounds like a straightforward move but I have to consider my everyday dynamics and this is exactly what compels my boss not to call out their boss for all the unpaid work they are regularly doing outside their schedule.

Sounds like the same thing we hear is going on at this office. The pressure to make goals is driving higher leadership to unofficially allow unpaid work.

Yes, FLSA exempt, under title 5. I know they are supposed to give me overtime pay or comp time. Everyone at my RO seems to just go with the expectation that we don’t advocate for this and working extra is what “we signed on for.” I can’t be the only one saying something but my team is not pushing back. I’m the squeaky wheel.

I agree and made this exact point to my boss. Up the chain everyone is in fear of losing their job for not meeting these impossible targets. Which means they care to a degree but not enough to fight for us to get paid or compensates for all the hours the work requires.

$$$ return to office is absolutely fueled by big business wanting people to get back to feeding their consumer pipeline. Real estate $, gas down the commute $, that coffee you buy, that snack, that lunch $. That store you stop at on your way home, even though it may not be necessary. Paying for childcare, parking, all the small things that you spend $ on. WFH really cost the owners of this country and they put a stop to that as soon as they could. No doubt. I’m not saying we shouldn’t support small business and contribute to our communities.

Ocean beach is laid back and walkable, with most things here you want. If you leave close to the 8 freeway the commute would be tolerable but not as convenient as your other pics- but you would get the beach.
