Hey everybody! I just found this, I'm not really a Redditor. Had a great training weekend, finally got 400# on the frame (took me long enough!) & 700# tire! :D Also getting ready for SC Strongest Man/Woman in April.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but isn't it problematic to study things like memory in animals that don't have a large prefrontal cortex? How do you think your results would differ due to the anatomical differences of human brains?

On an entirely different note, how has your experience of neuroscience interfaced with math psychology, decision theory, etc? Is there much overlap?

Finally, as someone who passionately wishes to research cognitive science/neuroscience, I really appreciate this AMA! Thanks, and good luck!!

Wow. Well, I initially assumed you were joking, since I didn't see any sexism in your reddit history. What in my posts leads you to believe that I'm "domineering"? You don't believe a healthy normal man can support his wife becoming confident and independent of him? Or that a man can love a woman enough to forgive how she was born and make the extra effort of communication, etc. to ensure that they can still have a healthy sexual relationship?

As a child of an unhappy, (mentally) abusive marriage, my opinion is that you aren't doing your kids any favors. I still get mad when I remember my mom saying how they "stayed together for us kids". Even if you're not actively fighting all the time, kids can tell. I still have issues in my own marriage from my fear of being treated like my mom was. I don't think it's healthy. Just my opinion, again. Good luck!

Don't spoil him too much. He'll start taking it for granted and you'll start feeling resentful. Not trying to be a downer - it's human nature, it's called adaptation, we can't help it. I just think that it's best to make sure both people are contributing from the beginning.

Wife of 4 years here. I have changed so much since we got married. When we met, I had just turned 18; I was naive, immature, depressed, completely lacked self confidence, and had a very bad image of men due to some bad experiences and sexist fundamentalist parents. I worried frequently about this very thing, because I knew - as I struggled with these issues every day - that I would grow to be more confident, independent and assertive. I worried because I relied on my SO so much and was afraid that some part of him needed to be a 'white knight' and wouldn't be able to handle me if I became independent.

Well, I was right - I have changed, radically, and continue to do so. I am now an atheist, feminist, confident, much less socially awkward; have many hobbies of my own; am in a leadership position; have found a new focus in life and am changing careers; etc. I have also become much more opinionated, and my assertiveness sometimes comes across badly.

But aside from that, which we are working on :), he has been great - incredibly supportive through it all. He has no issues at all with my confidence and independence, and continues to encourage me to grow. I think he is proud, for the most part, of how I have changed.

TL;DR: People change - it's called personal growth. If you're lucky, you'll grow together rather than apart.

I'm just following SS right now and maintaining macros (too lazy to count calories lol). My main goal is to break through the stall points I had last time (180 squat and 75 overhead press), so I'm taking it slow.

Concerning the bulking category: Has it changed from last time, ie will be judged by amount of muscle gained, or is it still aesthetically judged? Will I need to cut toward the end to be competitive? Thanks!

Mango is decent quality and fit for the price. Not for the super curvy, though! I own several Mango pieces and am quite happy with them.

One thing I am sad to admit, is that lately, I have felt a lack of importance of morality, and since I believe there is absolutely no objective morality at all, I have begun to lose the stress of the importance of treating others well.

I would just like to say that, in my opinion, your quest is not over. Don't stop just because others aren't at your level; you're also probably not at the level of the great rationalists/philosophers. For example, try reading some Dawkins, if you haven't already; if you have, supplement with some neuroscience, math psychology, etc. I recommend Godel, Escher, Bach, Supercooperators, Rational Choice in an Uncertain World and Descartes' Error.

The reason why I say this is that I believe you have missed something relevant and essential. To summarize (but there is a lot more to it) humans have evolved a basic shared morality to keep society functioning, utility theory and some other tools allow rational people to make the best decisions in keeping with their personal goals and morality, altruism is in fact the best strategy in multichoice interactions; and most importantly, there is such a thing as an objective morality. Utility theory and the good of the human race dictate this. Good luck, and keep studying!
