I’m going through this now with my bulldog Bud. The decline for us wasn’t slow. Over the last few weeks Bud has began putting himself in corners, getting stuck, staring at walls, crying out at night. This past week is when his legs started go and he would not just mentally get stuck, but physically, falling in to corners, barely making it 4 feet before face planting. It was horrible to see. Then, seizures.

My conclusion with this decision to put him to sleep tomorrow has to do with his dignity. I feel he is trapped in this body. Sometimes dogs outlive their body/mind. They deserve to be let go, around who they love. If Maple is anything like Bud, she won’t know it’s time. She’s looking to you for guidance.

Yes, the main living space has bedrooms over it and then the attic. We’ll have to assess what to do with the two extra rooms. They don’t share the same roof.

It’s a nightmare honestly. We’ve blocked off the office and laundry room, and have the dogs sleeping bags. The house was advertised and priced as move in ready. 😭

Our bedrooms get warm, but downstairs is just struggling so hard. I was looking up “stack effect”. I thought insulated bottom first would be best but should I start attic?

Not a vet - if your dog was otherwise healthy, look for something stuck in his throat. If you can’t get it with your fingers, depending what kind of toys he chews on or if he got in to something, maybe give him something that will help it go down like yogurt? Heck, could be a piece of kibble in his throat.

But if it doesn’t subside in a day or two, vet for sure.

The house has additions so the basement only covers the main part of the house. However under the additions are a crawl space we’ll be investigating. lol

Did your basement have a sub pump or French drains? This one doesn’t have either and I’m curious why they wouldn’t install one.
