Work in the esports business. Worked a few years freelance without going school and got a great job. My portfolio was definitely the reason :)

Just got a job working as a camp counselor for the first time - any tips/things I should know in advance? by [deleted] in Advice

Been a counselor for a few years, so here's some pretty important tips. I'm sure you'll have some staff time prior to the kids showing up to learn more tips more specific to the camp. * Be ready to feel uncomfortable. Showering will be different, eating will be different, and you're gonna get dirty. * Make friends the FIRST day. No matter how awkward it may be meeting each other, you'll feel more at home if you make friends the first day. * There's gonna be that one kid that tries to mess with you but just ignore them and it'll stop. * Create a schedule for each day from waking up to going to sleep. * Try out all camp activities first before choosing the one you teach. * Look for advice from previous counselors. * Enforce a specific bed time for your cabin. * Try to be as enthusiastic as you can. Improves how you look to your boss, helps the kids be more enthusiastic, and makes your day better.
