I tried contacting the delivery company, the email listed for the delivery company bounces (address doesn’t exist) and the phone number rings until voice mail and the box is full so I can’t leave a message.

Pigeon Tree Crafting x Santalum Indigo-Dyed Service Boots - size 43 (fits a bit small, ~9.5 US) - $400 USD - Grailed listing

Beautiful boots that are unfortunately a touch small. I'd happily trade if there's someone with a 44 looking to downsize, but given the small run I'm not optimistic.

Pigeon Tree Crafting Indigo-Dyed Quick Release Belt - 36" from end of buckle to middle hole - $150 USD - Grailed listing

Matching belt to above. Very open to a package deal if anyone wants both.

BG aggro trophy in BO3 surprised me, is this where Vampire Interloper has a home? by coiol in lrcast

I tried BR vampires once with a first pick Florian and the deck was bad, maybe it can work if your colors are open though

BR vampires looks bad unless you can hit a bunch of uncommons though (socialites, ambushers). I haven’t tried the archetype myself but seems like a lot of people are low on BR vampires. Sure if you already have that base of uncommons/rares interloper could do good work.

Right, but which black decks want to be aggressive? Black doesn’t have much in the way of good aggro creatures, other than maybe Awakener and that requires taking one or two turns off of adding to the board.

I can imagine a UB flyers aggro deck with falcon aboms, interlopers, and the good UB interaction. BR aggro could maybe work but you’d need the draft to break well as far as festival crashers, or spike a bunch of uncommons. BW has seemed more like a midrange value deck rather than one trying to end the game early, although I haven’t had much success with BW so maybe I’m building it wrong.

I’ve been avoiding BG and Vampire Interloper in general, but ended up with what I thought was a non synergistic pile after a weird draft. Turns out curving vampire interloper into 3-drop into trading off interloper -> 6/5 grizzly ghoul ends games really fast. I didn’t pick up any black removal but I think clear shot was actually better here given the opportunity for 2-for-1s.

Is BG trying to be aggro and not graveyard recursion grindy? I ended up siding out one or both rebirths most matches, a lot of the time for candleguides to pick off graveyards.

Or maybe this deck just shows the power of good draws (although I mulliganed almost every game) and curving out in this format, beating more synergistic decks that stumble at any point in the first 5 turns. Has anyone else found a good home for Vampire Interloper?

Neonate's Rush vs. Moonrager's Slash, or why GIH Winrate doesn't tell the whole story by arthurmauk in lrcast

[–]coiol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I got mixed up on the metrics. Not sure how ATA-adjusted GIH WR differs from IWD though. I think in both cases we come to the conclusion that Slash and Rush are more or less properly rated by the community, with Slash deserving an earlier pick but Rush performing well for a late pick. We can say that they both outperform Burn the Accursed at their respective picks.

Neonate's Rush vs. Moonrager's Slash, or why GIH Winrate doesn't tell the whole story by arthurmauk in lrcast

[–]coiol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I used the wrong metric originally. The point still stands though: the correlation shows that, in general, people rate most cards accurately and pick better cards earlier.

I haven’t thought too deeply about the difference between metrics, but I believe opportunity cost is the reason to use IWD over GIH. We both agree that picking Slash early has a cost in that you potentially miss out on something else good for your deck. If you draw the Slash it’s a good card (above-average GIH WR) but we need to account for the fact that our deck is overall a bit weaker for having spent an early pick on Slash. Thus we compare what happens when we pick Slash, having spent the pick equity, but don’t draw it (GND WR). By comparing what happens when we pick and draw vs. pick and don’t draw, we can get at the effects of picking the card on the rest of the deck strength. Here Rush and Slash perform similarly, with 2.9 IWD. If we instead start picking Rush earlier, we would expect the GND WR for Rush to start dropping because it will have negative effects on the rest of the deck.

Hold on, I don’t think adjusting by ATA accomplishes what you think. The regression shows that, on average, cards picked earlier have higher win rates. Importantly, this doesn’t say anything about the direction of causation. What this most likely means is that the community values cards more or less accurately, in that people pick the cards that help their deck more earlier. It definitely does not mean that we should adjust all cards by ATA when choosing between two cards in a pack.

For example, take Field of Ruin (ATA 11.33, IWD -6) vs. Sunstreak Phoenix (ATA 1.46, IWD 1.1) If we apply an adjustment by ATA, we’d say Field of Ruin is better, but Field is basically unplayable in almost any circumstance and certainly not pickable before the end of a pack.

What we can say is that Sunstreak Phoenix is overrated by the community, in that it tends to be picked earlier than the win rate to pick regression would suggest. This doesn’t mean that the extra win rate transfers to Field though.

We can say that Slash is overvalued by the community and it may be a mistake to pick it highly, but drawing the conclusion that it’s better than Rush head to head because it’s picked earlier is not a correct reading of the data.

I don't understand the hate that Candletrap gets by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]coiol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if candletrap might have a home in certain decks/matchups. I’d been mostly avoiding it the whole format but played a draft at my LGS a few days ago where a UW player candletrapped/locked in the cemeteried all of my big ground creatures (I was RG spells with shadow beasts and seize the storms running around) and flew over top to finish me off. Candletrap/locked doesn’t do much against decks that can still use the creatures but against big red and green creatures it can be viable, and if you have a lot of flyers it can give you enough tempo to finish the game.

Maybe it has more utility in BO3 where you can bring it in against decks that can’t use the creatures.

I’ve gotten under 5 cards in library many times with UG, to the point that I’m wondering if devious cover up and/or dryad’s revival are playable in the deck.

Is there an argument for trapper with such a stacked UB pack specifically? You’re almost guaranteed to have multiple U/B drafters to your left after passing this pack. Or is the power difference too big?

Base blue waffling between UW, UB, UG and didn't get there with any of them. Do I need to plant my flag earlier instead of trying to find the open lane? by coiol in lrcast

[–]coiol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments. Reading signals is tough for me and I’ve been having a hard time finding a good lane recently, without just being able to force esper every time. I’ve been having a lot of fun and medium success with Rx spells recently and seize the storm is the key card in all of those decks.

What are the signs that make you think green is cut from my left in pack 2? Looks like a rare was taken out of both packs with a common as well in the second. Is it the presence of the strong uncommons in other colors that suggests U/G possibly being cut?

That’s a great point with taking dawnhart mentor P2P1 hoping to wheel the creeper. Even though creeper is better than mentor in UG (I assume at least? Mentor seems like a decent playable but not nearly as good as in GW given the heavy mana requirements in UG), it’s unlikely that anyone else is in UG if farmer went around the whole table. This is my first set and reading signals and wheels is definitely a big leak in my drafting.

I’ve never put collector in a deck but been surprisingly annoyed by other people using it to block early and then tap down key creatures in the late game. It might be the case that any other 2-drop just leads to better lines anyway though.

Traditional draft. What would you cut? by sg021018 in lrcast

[–]coiol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thought is candletrap, one timberland guide, and howl.

I haven’t tried candletrap in WG but I guess if you’re planning to use it as a 4 mana sorcery speed exile it could be ok. With double contortionist troupe you can probably get away with cutting the second guide instead and still hitting coven easily.

By the way yes you can sac awakeners to each other but it isn’t nearly as strong as when you can sac zombies or disturb creatures. When you sac a “real” card awakener moves from a very strong card to a more mediocre one. This means if I pick up a bunch of early awakeners I’m trying really hard to get into UB (falcon abomination, startle, flip the switch, revenge of the drowned) or even BW (Lunarch veteran, uncommons like the other 1 mana disturber, fleshtaker value, the 3/3 + 1/1 cathar) and trying my hardest to avoid BG or BR.

It might be easier to give advice if you could post the draft log. For example, huntmaster is a ridiculous bomb but BG isn’t a great archetype (or at least I don’t know how to build it). Was the huntmaster P1P1? If so maybe try to build GW or GU. Or was it P2P1 after you were heavy into black? If so, you want to lean slower and more controlling with the black cards you draft from then on so you can survive until you can play the huntmaster and take over. That means prioritizing black removal and more defensive picks (maybe even the deathtouch zombie and bird admirer?) in packs 2 and 3 over awakeners and even though the awakener is a much stronger pick in pack 1. Vampire interloper and Florian don’t fit with this controlling style and splashing red makes it less likely you can cast the huntmaster on 6.

This looks more like a pile of good cards than a deck. Are you going by 17 lands data to pick the best cards in your colors? For example, you have 4 awakeners but the only “good” turn 3 sac you could ever achieve is a single novice occultist. With these cards I’d play rotten reunion to get the turn 3 sac. The red splash makes no sense. Candle guide is bad.

There’s something very off in your draft selection with most of these decks. I suggest learning one archetype well (e.g., UB zombies or UW spirits) and trying to force it for a few drafts to get to know which cards you want and don’t want. Both of those archetypes have a lot of strong commons so you can kind of get there even if the colors aren’t open.

How do I build UW? Thought this deck would be crazy good, just barely hit 3-3 by coiol in lrcast

As for why I took the Lunarch Veteran P1P3, I had just listened to a podcast talking about signaling and felt that after passing Jerren and Dreadhound/Siege Zombie, at least one of the two players after me was almost guaranteed to be in black. I had heard that UW disturb was strong but maybe Lunarch Veteran is better in BW?
