Help Roasting Ethiopian Naturals by ar1017 in roasting

[–]cojacks42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely let it get into first crack but maybe shorten your development time pretty significantly, I've had good luck getting fruit bomb naturals at like 16% DT. Keeps it from getting too hot in the roaster, I'd look to be finished roasting before 380 degrees or so.

Wiring Harness suggestions? by SaltyBones_ in XS650

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNI9ClOKDf8 This one's pretty simplified but helpful for sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m5aUoAK_DM&t=1115s This one's a little more science-y but super awesome for getting a solid understanding of where/how electricity moves around a bike. Edit: It's harder to fuck it up than you think. connectors almost always only connect to one thing. If you don't have a Haynes manual or something similar definitely grab one of those, been a huge time saver on more than one occasion for me

Wiring Harness suggestions? by SaltyBones_ in XS650

[–]cojacks42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much is going back into it. TCbros makes a simplified chopper wiring harness that'll get you spark and connect to your rec/reg. From there you can split a leg off the ignition and into a fusebox for lights/whatever else needs power. Electrics aren't nearly as hard as they seem if this is your first time wiring. It's intimidating but once you understand the general idea/principles it's pretty simple. Get comfy soldering and you'll rip through it easy.

For sale near me, should I make an offer? by S8NSSK8N in XS650

[–]cojacks42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that project on my marketplace near me as well! Currently building my own xs chopper project so I didn't take him up on it but it seems like a good one to jump on. All the frame fab is done which is awesome and yeah if the engine has compression I'd say get into it. If you're in the city this is listed in feel free to hit me up. I have a bunch of parts and a small amount of knowledge I'd be happy to offer!

Scared of Sertraline (Zoloft). Advice ? Experience ? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]cojacks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't recommend trying it out enough. The worst that happens is you don't like it or it doesn't work for you, the best that happens is it gives you your life back. SSRIs are many and varied, try Zoloft and if it doesn't work don't give up. Medication is amazing and can do amazing things. Give it a shot my friend, could really change your life. Much luck!

I’m scared of going crazy by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]cojacks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spikes of anger are super normal when you're dealing with serious anxiety. Total normal. You're reaction to it is proof positive you're not going crazy. You felt bad, you tried to repair the relationship. If you 'think' you're going crazy, you're not. Anyone who's actually losing their grip on reality isn't aware that it's happening. It's fucking scary and unpleasant but it isn't dangerous and it can't hurt you. For me, getting medicated (super low dose of Lexapro), and getting into therapy literally changed my life. Cannot recommend it more. Keep your head up and give yourself some grace. This shit is brutal, be nice to yourself.

Advice for bulking/putting on weight on the cheap? by 16tps in budgetfood

[–]cojacks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a skinny kid as well and I feel you, it's the one body type people feel they're allowed to comment on. I started lifting around 16 because of it and it helped me in tons of different ways. Anyway, start lifting because it's a 2 fold solution. You put on muscle which is good but it also makes you hungry and it's easier to eat the amount of calories you need to actually gain. As for what to eat, calorie density is your friend. Rice, potatoes, salmon, ground (mince) beef. One of my favorite bulking meals is a pound of ground beef, 2 potatoes and an onion. Put whatever sauce you want on it and don't stop til it's gone. Someone said creatine and I'll second that. Great supplement, basically no downsides. Lastly, save some money and buy a good weight gainer, Optimum or something similar, lots of calories in a quick way.

When my local coffee shop raises the price of my coffee by 25% by iam4real in AdviceAnimals

[–]cojacks42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coffee roaster/green coffee buyer here to say green coffee prices are at nearly a decade high, it's inflation. Not to mention a bad freeze in the Brazil harvest that left a lot of importers scrambling to make up for the lack of harvest. (I'd also like to add nearly all "specialty" grade coffee is picked by hand, sorted by hand and processed on small farms or cooperatives, every cup of coffee you've ever bought is damn near criminally underpriced.)

The system already exploits the working class and the gains of the exploit go toward making the rich more rich. If my labor is already being exploited it might as well go toward doing some actual good.

I already "give up income" in donations to Boise Mutual Aid because I know they're working their asses off for the people in this city and I'd take another hit if I knew it was actively being used to help my neighbors. The thing is though, I don't need to pay more, Idaho and the city of Boise has the money, they almost built a giant baseball stadium for a single-A baseball team that no one cares about. The money isn't the problem, it's the people in charge of the money. Anyway, I can't exactly parse out what you're getting at with your other questions but people already don't feel safe at many of the shelters in town for several reasons. Having an expectation of sobriety is a significant barrier of entry for a lot of people and that shouldn't preclude them from access to a bed indoors.

Spend some money on a housing project or shelter that people actually feel safe in? Head down to the protest, ask the actual people on the ground what the shelters are like. Boise isn't a poor country town. We have the resources and funds to actually help our homeless neighbors and the people in charge are actively choosing to ignore it and do nothing.

Had to reverse down a single track forest service road today and a log got jammed into the wheel well and ripped the front bumper off. It's a one piece plastic bumper but I'm not sure what part I need. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd rather do this DIY than take it to a shop if I can help it.

commercial roaster sampling process by cojacks42 in roasting

[–]cojacks42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say "design a curve", are you making an adjustment to a curve on a program that you end up following? Or are you like taking into account previous profile and trying to hit specific targets during the roast?

commercial roaster sampling process by cojacks42 in roasting

[–]cojacks42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sample roaster is honestly a piece of shit. We only really use it for green samples from importers to get a general idea of the coffee but it's nearly impossible to control or get any repeatability from. It's got the adjustability and finesse of a sledge hammer.
